The Mimic is a versatile, small vibrator with an unique, manta ray shape. The toy fits in the palm of your hand and can be used for pinpoint stimulation (with the tip of the toy) or more broad stimulation (with the toy's base and wings). The vibe has 6 intensity levels and 8 patterns. The Mimic has a button to turn the vibe on and to cycle through its patterns, and separate plus and minus buttons to increase or decrease the intensity. The toy's other notable features include: The toy is USB chargeable; is made of body safe materials and is 100% waterproof; and has a travel lock. A special feature of the Mimic is it features a LED light when powered on or when charging, like a vibrator nightlight when the lights go dim.
Uncharted Waters
When I first saw the Mimic, I was super intrigued by its shape: it looks like a single wave or a curvy sea creature. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about this shape, but I knew from reading the Mimic’s informative website, this Mimic, the original Mimic, has buzzy, surface level vibes, and I’m more of a rumbly vibes fan (I did appreciate the website for informing buyers of the different type of vibrations, such as buzzy versus rumbly, that their toys offer). Still, I was eager to test the Mimic and see how I liked the shape and if the shape would affect my vibration preference at all. I knew from reading the description, the vibe offers pin-point and broad stimulation too, which I was interested in feeling in the vibe’s wave-like shape.Riding the Wave
I started using the Mimic on the softest setting and moved to the highest intensity and to using its pin-point ability. I like the vibe as a warm-up toy, because the soft vibes against the vulva feel enlivening and the curve of the Mimic’s silicone against the body feel cozy. The lowest settings of the vibe are quite soft to me; I had to use the highest several settings to feel arousal. Even at the highest setting, the Mimic is a slow build up for me. I turned the mimic perpendicular to my body to use the tip of the wave to feel the most sensation. At the highest level, I noticed the buzzy vibrations the most. Though the Mimic did bring me to orgasm, in the future I’ll only be using the Mimic on the lower settings and switching out to another vibe when I need more power, so I can avoid all the buzz. The design of the Mimic is my favorite aspect of the vibe, so I only have a few minor dislikes. I love the way the vibe fits in the palm of your hand and the feel of its ultra silky silicone. My partner also held the vibe in their hands and remarked how delightful the little mantra ray shape is. The design simultaneously looks cute, sleek and artful all the same time. I feel the design of the toy is very approachable for all genders: The toy comes in 3 colors (black, lilac, and a sea foam green) and the tip, the wings, and the base of the toy vibrate. The vibe can be enjoyed in various ways and by different bodies. One design aspect I didn't enjoy about the toy is the light indicator; I find the light distracting and I'd rather not have more lights when I'm in play mode. In addition, I initially found the buttons difficult to find and press, and I found holding the Mimic with one of my hands uncomfortable (in a few positions).
Though in the beginning there is a learning curve, and as long as you don't have issues bending your wrist, the Mimic ranks high on the ease of use scale. I found the vibe easy to hold and if my wrists started arching, I switched hands or took a break from using the Mimic for another toy. (I am over 40, so working with and taking care of my aches and pains is part of my life). Initially the vibe was difficult to navigate, because the plus and minus buttons are hard to feel. After my fingers learned where the buttons are, I found navigation easy and the buttons just require a moderate amount of pressure to turn on. I like the simple interface the vibe has: one button for on/off/patterns and another two for increasing or decreasing speed. The Mimic felt natural to move against the body and fit curves beautifully. (To note, this vibe doesn't have an app. ability, so the interface is indeed just the three buttons).
Minus a few exceptions, I'd rate the Mimic Massager has a high quality toy. The Mimic feels lovely to hold during all types of play. I love the thoughtfulness of the design and how the vibe snuggles into your hands with its silicone silkiness. The vibe also feels flexible in its wings but sturdy where you don't have to be delicate with it during play. Though the Mimic isn't whisper quiet, the toy is on the quieter end of vibes. The buttons are a bit difficult to push and find during play, but the light on the vibe can help guide you to the buttons in dim lightening. The quality of the charging port and the merging of the ABS plastic and the silicone could be higher: The silicone flap covering the port feels flimsy, and the merging of the two materials feels somewhat abrupt and not seamless.
The Mimic is currently a mid-priced vibrator. There is a newer version out called the Mimic Plus, which is more of a higher-priced vibe. I feel if you're looking for what the original Mimic offers, the toy offers worthy vibes for the price: The Mimic has moderately strong, buzzy vibes, has an unique shape (ergonomic to hold and easily slipping between bodies during play), and offers pin-point and broad stimulation in one toy. Unless you need super strong, top power vibes, the Mimic will also have all the power you need. For those looking for rumblier vibes, the Mimic website compares the original Mimic and the Mimic Plus and states the Mimic Plus does offer more rumbly vibrations.
I do feel the Mimic lived up to its promises of being a comfortable and pleasurable vibe; However, for my personal needs, it won’t be one of my favorite toys. The Mimic is easeful and comfortable to hold, except with my left hand where I can’t hold a bendy position for long. If I liked buzzy vibes, I feel the Mimic has a functional range from soft to moderately strong. I do appreciate how I can use the vibe in various ways (all in one toy) and it is one of the fewer toys that works well in multiple positions in partner play. In addition, the device never got hot when I used it, the battery has 1 hour of continuous power, and the charging takes about two hours max. The Mimic website says the vibe is a discreet and quiet vibe, and I agree to both.
I have seen vibe packaging I have enjoyed more, but I still rank the Mimic has high on the packaging scale. The Mimic comes in a solid and sturdy black box. You could use the box itself for storage, or you can use the black, satin bag the device comes with. I find the box is a pretty design. The black box has splashes of color matching the color of vibe you buy; Mine is black, so the color splashes on the cover are a light black. I feel the splashy design compliments the water- manta ray design of the vibe, which is featured on the cover too. I appreciate the sturdy box, but I'd prefer to see the actual toy through a plastic, clear cover myself.
The Mimic is made of body-safe silicone and ABS (a type of plastic). The toy generally feels and looks high quality. The toy is one of the lightest vibes I own, which adds to the seamless feelings of holding the toy. To clean the Mimic, the manufacturer recommends a suitable silicone-friendly cleaner. Otherwise, you can use a mild soap and lukewarm water. Then, allow the toy to dry or pat dry. Though the vibe is 100% waterproof, there is a tiny gap where the ABS plastic and silicone meet and the charging port hole has a silicone flap that can capture material if not diligently cleaned. I do like how the Mimic's manual assures you the toy is waterproof with or without this little port flap. For storage after cleaning, the Mimic come with a black draw string bag for storage.

The Mimic Massager doesn't mimic any other vibe out there — this toy is unique in its design. It fits in your hand and hugs the curves of your body in a natural. Another key feature of the vibe is you can use the toy in solo or partner play; Being the vibe snugs the body, it can easily fit in-between positions and not take up space. Also being so light, it feels like just an extension of your hand. The Mimic has buzzy vibrations that range from soft to moderately powerful; I appreciate this range where it doesn't only have strong or soft vibes. In summary, if you are looking for a lightweight, moderately strong vibrator with buzzy vibes that can fit seamlessly into partner play or solo play, I'd recommend the Mimic.
