  • Enjoy rope bondage
  • Don't want rope burn while you play
  • Would prefer a pretty-colored rope
  • Know how to tie ropes together in a safe way

  • Are looking for a long length of rope

The Doc Johnson Japanese-Style Bondage Rope is 33ft long cotton rope that is designed to not rub or chafe your skin. This style of rope is normally used in shibari-style bondage, which is specifically restraining your partner in an uncomfortable position. Since your sub will be uncomfortable from the position, you do not want the rope to hurt them, which is why this rope is 100% cotton. Heck, get two or three ropes and tie up their whole body while you are at it, since this rope perfectly ties into other Japanese-style ropes.

My Experience with Rope Bondage

Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of rope bondage. To me, it takes too long to set the scene and, in the past, would always leave marks on my body from rubbing. Lucky for me, the Doc Johnson Japanese-Style Bondage Rope does not leave marks, since it doesn’t rub your skin. I tried a body corset made of rope, arm binders made of rope, and binding my legs to my arms with this rope and not a single mark was left from the rope. It still takes a lot of time to set the mood with rope, so I don’t think I’ll use it often, but when I do, I’ll be sure to use this product over any other.

When Rope Usage is Hard

The worst thing about this rope is that you only get 33 feet of it. I found myself having to tie in another piece of rope, which is actually more difficult than I hoped, since I am out of practice with rope bondage. Also, if you have any kind of disability that makes it hard for you to remain in one position for long (such as poor blood flow or arthritis), then rope bondage might not be for you. I find myself being in one position for 30+ minutes when using rope.

Best Ways to Use Rope

For the best results with rope, find someone who knows what they are doing. If you can find a shibari master than you will enjoy your time 100 fold. The other option is to practice for many hours until you can quickly and skilfully tie the basic knots — the Doc Johnson Rope comes with a page of basic knots to practice. If you are proficient at rope, then this product is still good for you as it is a very good quality.

This rope is the best quality you can get for the price. Made from 100% cotton, it performs perfectly to the standards presented on the packaging. There's no chafing or rubbing, and I found no imperfections in my product. The rope was braided nice and tight, and the color is nice too!

Rope is one on the hardest bondage tools to use effectively. While you can tie a basic knot and tie your sub to the bed, that is not what this rope is designed for. This rope is for more of an art form than a tie them and leave them type of play. I've given it a low ease of use rating simply because it takes many hours of practice before you will be good with this rope. Rope can be friendly to some handicapped people, but it definitely depends person to person. While it might be more difficult to be bound in the more intense positions, one could easily do chest bondage or rope corsets with this product. Also, this rope would be easy to grip if you had trouble with your grip strength, as the texture would help you hold on.

The Doc Johnson Japanese-Style Bondage Rope is a great quality product for sure. 100% cotton means the rope is super soft and performs at a very high standard. While the rope wont rub or chafe your skin it also wont accidentally untie itself, as long as you tie a very good knot. Also, it comes with six knots for you to learn how to tie inside the packages.

Honestly, the Doc Johnson Japanese-Style Bondage Rope is a good deal. You can find it for $15-27, depending on where you look. The only thing I would have liked to see is a little more rope in the package. 33 feet is short compared to some other Japanese rope on the market, but being made of cotton makes up for the short length.

This Doc Johnson Bondage Rope 100% performed at the level I expected of it. It's good quality rope that can be tied tightly and not hurt the submissive. While you can do solo bondage with rope (mostly chest or breast bondage), it will be way more fun to have a partner to play with, as one can do the tying and the other do the submitting. The only way you will get hurt with this rope is if you are careless with it. Seriously, I tried to break free and make the rope hurt me but it was impossible for me to do that.

When you lay eyes on the package, there is no confusion as to what this product is and what it is used for. The package color matches the rope color which is very nice touch. At the top it tells you that it is Japanese bondage rope. and the little cardboard insert has some knots for you to experiment with.

This is the safest rope you can buy for bondage, since it's soft and sturdy. While water is not the worst for cotton rope, I do not recommend getting a good-quality rope wet. Instead, buy cheaper rope for water play. This rope is lightweight and easy to use, so when you are done with it, you just untie the person and store the rope in your container of choice.
