While it may look like a steampunk toothbrush or some kind of medical device, the Eroscillator is actually a clitoral stimulator that "oscillates" rather than vibrating, creating a sensation that is deeper, more satisfying, and less numbing than traditional vibration. I've tested literally hundreds of toys, and this one is my favorite of all time.

My first experience with the Eroscillator was way back in 2012, and I was so excited to receive it that I immediately took it to my room, locked the door, plugged the toy in, put one of the included attachments on it, and put it on my clit. As a seasoned vibrator user, I wasn’t sure what to expect – but the “oscillations” felt noticeably different than any vibrations I’d felt before.

How do oscillations differ from vibrations?

1. Quality of motion

The way I understand it – and I’m no vibrator scientist, only a connoisseur of the genre – vibrations pound rhythmically against your skin, whereas the oscillations of this toy feel like they’re moving side-to-side, almost like a partner’s deft fingers. However, since the Eroscillator reaches speeds of 3600 steady oscillations per minute, it definitely feels much faster and more consistent than any human hand.

2. Lack of desensitization

Compared to vibrations – even the rumbly vibrations of something like a Magic Wand or We-Vibe Tango – the Eroscillator’s oscillations seem to reach deeper portions of my internal clit, even when only a light touch is applied. The oscillations seem to “wake up” my clit more quickly than other sex toys, easily taking me from low-to-nonexistent arousal to high levels of it within just a few minutes. They never make my clit feel numbed out, the way traditional vibration can, so I feel every bit of pleasure in every clitoral nerve ending all the way through to my orgasm, and can more easily try for additional orgasms afterward if I feel like it.

3. Depth of resonance

It’s not only the lack of desensitization that makes the Eroscillator ultra-pleasurable, though – the deep resonance of its oscillations makes its sensations feel more full-bodied than those of other clitoral toys. When I choose to have clitoral-only orgasms (i.e. orgasms without any penetration or additional forms of stimulation beyond clit play), they’re not usually the most intense, but orgasms the Eroscillator gives me are an exception. When I climax with this toy, even if I haven’t incorporated any other types of stimulation, it’s usually a gasping-for-air, toe-curling, unholy-noises-coming-out-of-my-mouth kind of orgasm. Needless to say, the pleasure is intensified even further if I do incorporate other stimulation, such as using the Eroscillator during PIV sex with my partner or while I’ve got a dildo or butt plug in me.

All in All…

I’ve never felt anything else quite like the Eroscillator in my 11+ years of reviewing sex toys professionally, which is why this is my all-time favorite toy and maybe always will be.

Look, let's not mince words – this is a pretty ugly toy. Even when the company attempted to overhaul the design a few years back, making it purple and silver instead of bronze, it didn't make much of a difference to its odd steampunk aesthetic. I don't tend to care much about toys' appearance, but if you do, this one might be off-putting. That being said, you flip between the toy's 3 speeds using a ridged slider on the side of its shaft which I find easy to use, even in the heat of the moment, and the slim profile of the toy makes it work well during PIV sex or other acts where space is limited.

Swapping out the toy's various attachments is an easy snap-off/snap-on process. Turning it on is as simple as plugging it in and pushing the slider to an "on" position, and from there, you can use the same slider to change between the toy's 3 speeds. Beyond that, there isn't much to it – so even when I'm bone-tired or intoxicated, I can always operate the Eroscillator just fine. Its ridged handle is also great if you've got lubey hands, or if, like me, you have chronic pain or grip strength issues that make it hard to hold onto smoother toys.

A few times, I've dropped my Eroscillator onto the floor by accident and broken the piece that connects the toy's body to its attachments, which makes it near-impossible to use. The company sent me a replacement for this part, which solves the issue, but I wish this hadn't been necessary. That said, I've used this toy multiple times a week for several years and it's still going strong, so clearly its mechanics are built well. The Eroscillator's attachments are also made of porous materials, which is pretty unacceptable for a toy at its price point.

This is a wildly expensive toy, starting at $249. It does come with multiple attachments, but frankly the only one I ever use is the marshmallow-esque "finger tip" attachment, so it seems absurd to have to pay for all the others too, especially since they're all made of porous materials. That said, no other toy gives me orgasms as intense or reliable, so I have replaced this toy a couple times when mine has broken, and its "cost-per-orgasm" ratio has always seemed fair to me when I think of its price in those terms.

You might not like the Eroscillator's more subtle sensations if you're used to the higher settings on a powerful wand vibe or similar, but I think for most clits it will be plenty strong enough. It only has 3 settings, but they cover a wide range of intensities, and pressing harder causes the oscillations to slow down somewhat, giving you more control over the strength. Being electric, this toy never runs out of juice. It's also probably the quietest electric toy I've ever tried. Occasionally it heats up with prolonged use, but never to a worrying degree.

The toy comes neatly packaged with all 6 of its varied attachments, plus an instruction booklet and a power adapter. The text on the packaging and in the booklet largely seems oriented toward people with minimal masturbation/orgasm experience, and is quite cisgender-centric, but is otherwise unobjectionable. I only wish there was a storage/carrying case included (you'd have to spring for the $469.95 "Eroscillator Gold" combo for that), because it's all too easy to lose attachments without one.

The body of the toy is made of hard plastic, and can be safely washed in the sink (but not submerged) as long as you unplug it first. The attachments are all made of porous materials, including elastomer, TPR, and "nylon filaments," depending on the attachment. While I think they are phthalate-free (as they've never irritated me), their porousness means they can never be fully cleaned, so you'll have to use condoms on them if you want to share them with non-fluid-bonded partners, and should replace them altogether if you ever have a vaginal infection or similar.

  • Offers a unique oscillation sensation that is deeper and less numbing than traditional vibration
  • Long, slim shape is ergonomic for solo or partnered use
  • Quiet
  • Comes with multiple different attachments

  • Expensive
  • Requires a nearby power outlet
  • Attachments are porous
  • Not the prettiest toy out there

I certainly have my complaints about the Eroscillator, namely its absurdly high price, porous attachments, lack of a storage case, and ugly design. But I can't deny that this toy has given me more orgasms than any other product in my entire collection, and has remained on my nightstand ever since I acquired my first one back in 2012. I have tested upwards of 300 toys in my life and have never found one I like more than the Eroscillator, because of how intensely, easily, and satisfyingly it can get me off, whether I'm alone or with a partner. If you enjoy clitoral orgasms – or want to try oscillation on another sensitive spot (it works surprisingly well on the frenulum of the penis, for instance) – I think the Eroscillator is worth considering, so long as you can contend with its flaws.

Turn the vibrator on or off by sliding its control slider, which is also used to switch between its 3 vibration speeds.

It feels deeper rather than surface-level, and is less prone to causing numbness/desensitization.

The power difference is definitely noticeable, so if you suspect you'll need more power, I'd suggest springing for the pricier model. However, I used the original Eroscillator for several years without issue; its power is definitely not weak or disappointing.

You should only use water-based lube with the Eroscillator.

Many reviewers (myself included) unequivocally enthuse about the Ultra Soft Finger Tip attachment, which looks like a marshmallow and softens the oscillations so they feel even more like actual human touch (albeit very fast and consistent human touch). However, if you prefer stronger sensations, you may want a firmer attachment that transmits the oscillations more intensely, such as the G-Point or Ball & Cup attachment.

The Eroscillator line of toys is made by a company called Advanced Response Corp. Fun fact: it's the only sex toy endorsed by Dr. Ruth!
