The Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential is not your typical stroker. The C-shaped design made it easy to just place any penis, flaccid or erect, inside. The PulsePlate and the "wings" work in tandem to vibrate all side of your penis, paying specific attention to the head of the penis. The body-safe silicone is buttery smooth while the plastic shell holds everything nicely but could get slippery if lube is added. The button on the outside are large and easily identifiable. The aren't the easiest to push but they don't allow for those accidental pushes either.

My Experience with the Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential

I was skeptical when opening the box for the Pulse Solo Essential. The shape was so different than most masturbators, this couldn’t be the toy that everyone raves about. Could it? After charging for the allotted time, I laid down to test it out. Turning it on was surprising on multiple levels. The pulses produced by the PulsePlate were intense and it seemed to wrap my member in a weird vibrating blanket. It was also pretty darn loud. Especially at the higher speeds. I went through all the patterns and strengths and found the one I was the most comfortable with.  It was kinda an S.O.S. pattern. The patterns with the Pulse Solo Essential are weird in that the pulses are so strong that you have an interesting muscle tension/relaxation happening.  It’s very different from a normal vibrating toy in that the point of vibration/pulse is literally at the head of your penis. On one of the most sensitive parts no less. This high-tension pulsing lead to a very different climax, one that was surprisingly big. It was pretty incredible and not what I expected.

Variations in Play

In my testing, I tried to use all the possible play methods. I had my partner help, I used it in the shower, I used lube (water based, of course), no lube, etc. I even shoved it in between the couch cushions. It isn’t all that different than most male masturbators in that regard. But one of the things that they really market the Pulse Solo Line for is its hands-free capabilities. So, I obviously had to try it. Meh. It worked, just not as well I thought it would. Standing, I could put it on and it would stay, but eventually the pulse pounding would cause it to slip and start to fall off. Now, I have any average size penis, so take that for what it is. Once you get into a supported position, it’s much better and does a lot of the work for you. Laying down, it will need side support so it doesn’t vibrate your penis all over the place. Overall, this is a great addition to my collection and will be used frequently.

The Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential is a weighty toy. A mix of hard ABS plastic and supple silicone, the "wings" do a good job of hugging your member but are a long way to being "hands free". The three buttons aren't the easiest to push but that isn't necessarily a bad thing in the middle of using it. The signature crown on the pulse pad adds a nice bit of texture to the sleeve and the entire unit feels very premium.

Once you see the Pulse Solo Essential it's pretty obvious how to use it. The penile shaped opening invites usage and the wings do a good job of hugging in all the right places. The buttons take a little force to push but that ensures you get the setting you want. If you want to mix it up you can add a water based lube and the sensation changes dramatically. It also gets exponentially messier as the PulsePlate tends to fling lube everywhere. The plastic could also get pretty slippery so use with caution.

As stated before, the Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential is on the bigger and heavier side. The plastic and silicone feel nice and show no signs of degradation after many, many uses. The only major negative I have noticed is the noise associated with using it. On the higher settings, it is pretty loud. Don't get me wrong, It feels great, but isn't necessarily something you want to use with company over.

The price is on par for lower range masturbators, but this isn't your normal masturbator. I have never felt anything like this before. The way the PulsePlate pounds the back of your head like a jackhammer is like nothing I've ever experienced. So, I would say that it's definitely worth the money.

The Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential was so much better than I expected. It looks deceiving in its little C-clamp shape but it hugs in all the right place. The wing fold over right on top of the glans and with the PulsePlate on the frenulum you get a lot of sensations at once. Charging took about 2.5 to 3 hours and it gave you a good 1hr of usage. I did notice that as the battery got lower it was easier to slow the pulse pad with pressure from my grip.

The box was honestly nothing special. It was thin and felt cheap. The contents were pretty standard. Charging cable, Check, Instruction manual. Check. Safety information. Check. Hot Octopuss inventory checklist. Check. The included travel/storage bag was definitely a welcome addition for those that need it. Overall, it was decent enough. Especially when you consider the real fun is inside the box.

The Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential is a pretty heavy toy. Especially when you consider that it is marketed as a hands-free toy. I agree that it can work but my experience using it hands free wasn't the best. The ABD plastic has some nice ridges on it to help with grip but if you get any lube on it it can be hard to control. Lube should be water based so it doesn't degrade the silicone. Speaking of the silicone, it feels nice and smooth. The PulsePlate has an embossed crown on it which adds a nice bit of texture to the vibrations. Cleaning is pretty standard with a mild soap and warm water then let air dry.

Easily the Special Feature here is the PulsePlate Technology. It is incredibly powerful and gives a sensation that you wont get with other vibrators or strokers. I can see where using it for edging would be welcome as it can get you to the point of no return quickly. The vibration modes and patterns just add to the experience with the PulsePlate. It make your entire body tense and release in ways that you just won’t find in other brands of toys. The PlusePlate if definitely the star of the show but we, as users, are the real winners here.

  • Simple to use
  • Incredibly strong pulses
  • Multiple pulse patterns and strengths
  • Very different from other masturbators

  • Not the quietest
  • Not the easiest to grip
  • Doesn't stay in place
  • Very slippery when lubed

The Hot Octopuss Pulse Solo Essential is long name for a pretty amazing penile sex toy. The versatile C-shaped design does allow for hands-free play, but also lends itself to stroking and partner play. The patented PulsePlate focuses on the frenulum and the glans but vibrates the entire penis as well making for a body shaking experience. I found that at the higher vibration settings the option for hands free play diminishes as it tended to vibrate off my member. Those with girthier appendages won't have that problem. The only major negative was the noise while using it. With the exposed PulsePlate pounding on things, it can sound like a small vacuum cleaner at the higher settings. Overall, if you have the funds and want something incredibly versatile, pick this up. You (or your partner) won't be disappointed.

Water-based lube is recommended as silicone lubricants can degrade the silicone.

Ideally, you would get into a position where your penis is supported and then put the Pulse Solo Essential on and go to town. The powerful oscillations do all the work for you so getting to climax isn't a problem.

Use a mild, unscented soap to clean it and make sure any bodily fluids have been removed. Then let the it air dry before using or charging.

Well, average size or larger should be fine as the wings are pretty flexible and allow for larger sizes. Smaller than average might have some issues but with the powerful PulsePlate Technology, you should still be able to feel the vibrations.
