  • Are looking for a strong suction cup

  • Are particularly nitpicky about one of the greatest classic monster movies ever made
  • Already have better fantasy sex toys
  • Have difficulty with penetration toys

Oxy's "Alien Nest Dildo" is a striking fantasy dildo meant to evoke some sort of extra-terrestrial gnarl of growth from an exotic nest. The shaft is a spiral of knobs, and the base is adorned with stray tooth-like protrusions. It really tries to cater that dream of stumbling across some Geiger-esque breeding ground. Fortunately, instead of a questionable xenomorph secretion, it's made of safe, reliable, silicone. There is a lot going on to the design of this, but I can't say it all works. It's still fun, but there are a handful of obstacles that make it fall a little short of its initial promise.

The Classic Alien?

I really appreciate what they were going for with this one. I’ve seen Alien dozens of times, and I’m a huge fan. I’m just not sure if the designers of Oxy share my enthusiasm. This is super minor, but my first clue is on their own website as they describe this toy. “Have you seen the movie Alien – The part where eggs are laid and aliens are nesting? Did you get aroused sitting on one of those? Probably not, yet we still made a dildo for that purpose. Surprise-surprise.” This annoys me in so many ways. The first movie only ever had one alien; I’m pretty sure they are trying to reference the sequel, “Aliens”. Second of all, this toy looks nothing like an egg. Third, and to make a more serious point, why would you say we are probably not aroused by this? Oxy, please, you are trying to sell me this sex toy. You should hope that I am aroused. This comes off as so weird to me.

Appearance

The appearance of monster (or alien in this case) fantasy toys is what elevates the experience above more normal ones. Sadly, after first impressions have worn off, you can see the same dispassion in the toy’s appearance that the website hinted at. The pastel colors are about as far removed from a xenomorph fantasy as you can get. It looks like I’m having sex with a sour gummy worm, not a sci-fi horror worm. The spiral is very neat and orderly, which interferes with the organic, confounding designs of the fantasy it tries to evoke. To give them credit though, The toothy, textured base looks perfect.

Design Flaws

It isn’t perfect, however. Those toothy projections I love so much seriously get in the way. The toy just isn’t nearly as flexible as other silicone toys, and that compounds the problem. The site claims almost 8 inches of length. The base is around one inch, and then the projections prevent what has to be over half an inch from being usable at all. The rigid material strikes again when testing the suction cup. This is my first toy with a suction cup, so it might be inexperience, but most of the positions that having a suction cup affords were just too uncomfortable. The pictures on the website show the toy flexing like you’d expect from other silicone toys, but it does take some pressure to get it to bend that far. One final issue is that at every point of the shaft, the ridges are shorter than the bumps. I don’t know if the ridges would work better if used vaginally, but the size difference between the bumps and the ridges effectively meant the ridges never did anything to me. If they had just made the ridges extend out the same diameter, it would have worked a lot better.

I think the design is headed in the right direction, but it still has a ways to go. I can see how each of the elements are trying to contribute to this alien fantasy. First, they need to rethink the spiral. Perhaps they add some grooves or recesses or strange bulges at different points of the spiral, anything to push it closer to a more unsettling, inscrutable quality. The base is also bulkier than it needs to be. The whole base doesn't fit comfortably in one hand, something that other toys don't have an issue with. Combined with the protrusions, it hampers the functionality of the toy.

How easy it is to use depends on what you want to do. If you want to squat over it on the ground, the suction cup does a good job of keeping it anchored. It is more difficult to hold in one hand if, for example, you wanted to lie down. I also think, especially compared to other toys that claim to be tentacles, that the tip is rather blunt. It gets mostly as wide as it's going to in the span of half an inch. I recommend warming up with a narrower toy if you find it difficult to penetrate.

The toy holds up really well. The material is solid and the colors are particularly vibrant. It shows no sign of degradation anywhere. There are no seams from the mold. Even the suction cup is incredibly reliable. You could probably use it to hang a whiteboard if you wanted. There might be other issues, but the quality is great.

At $40, it undercuts most other fantasy toys. I would rate it higher, but if you ignore the fantasy element of it, you could get a very similar experience for cheaper with some anal beads. If the alien theme means enough to you to spend more, I'm not sure this the best returns per dollar for everyone. This toy sits in that middle ground of not being the most cost effective option for the purely physical experience and not spending enough effort on the aesthetic experience to justify a lot of money. I think its price reflects that pretty well.

While the website never directly promises a whole lot, I think there are plenty of implied promises. The listed length of the toy is deceptive; the usable length is noticeably shorter. The suction cup works amazing, but the toy isn't flexible enough to capitalize on it. The ridges sure look like they should do something at first glance, but they might as well not be there at all. The spiraled bumps, at least, feel as great as they look.

This is the most nondescript packaging I've ever received a sex toy in. The Alien Nest Dildo came in a featureless plastic bag, in a standard brown box. It's not bad. The packaging did what it needed to do. I give them props for being super discreet, too. I don't think it's necessarily a strike against Oxy, but when so many other sites take this opportunity to make an impression, it's a little weird. It's the same kind of weird I felt reading the description on their site. They don't want to care too much, or something. They did give me a little business card with a coupon though, just sitting on the bottom of the box.

The Alien Nest Dildo is made with body-safe, non-porous silicone. Oxy calls it "Better Than Real Skin" material. It seems heavier and more rigid than other silicone toys, but the care is the same. It's easy enough to clean with warm, soapy water, and you should only use water-based lubricants. Store it in a dry place, and be careful which other toys you store it with. It does not come with its own storage bag.

Alien Nest Dildo -

  • Body-safe, easy-to-clean, durable silicone
  • Fun texture
  • Affordable

  • Needs to be more flexible
  • Tendrils on base get in the way
  • Visual design isn't quite all the way there
  • Ridges of the spiral are purely decorative

While I do go over some issues, they aren't dealbreakers. They don't ruin the experience of the toy. If you want something a little different, for a little more money, then this could be a good purchase. It's just probably not the best choice for most people. One one end of the spectrum, 40$ is a lot of money for just the experience. You can get a textured dildo that vibrates for under half the cost. On the other end of the spectrum, there are toys that are a bit more expensive, but really deliver on a theme or a fantasy a lot better.

There is no instruction manual online, but it’s not very complicated. The store page briefly mentions care, or you can see my “How To” guide for details.

You can use any water-based lube. You can find inexpensive options at a pharmacy or convenience store.

The Alien Nest Dildo is made from non-porous, phthalate-free silicone. It is body-safe.

The answer is, of course, whatever you enjoy most. It's highly dependent on your own preferences, what spaces you use it in, whether or not you have a partner, etc... You don't have to take advantage of the powerful suction cup, but if you do, I recommend anchoring it to a surface beneath you and sitting/squatting.

Oxy does claim that the toy is compatible with a harness, as a strap-on.
