  • Are looking for a realistic-feeling dildo
  • Want a dildo for everyday use — not too big or too small!
  • Need a dildo with harness compatibility

  • Would prefer a non-realistic color scheme
  • Are buying a dildo for hands-free play and need a super strong suction cup
  • Are on a budget

The Vixskin Tex from Vixen Creations is a gorgeous, dual density dildo that's perfect for everyday play. With an insertable length of just over 5" and a diameter 1.75", it's wonderfully filling without being too much of a stretch! The firm core and squishy outer layer give it a nice flexibility and make it feel more realistic than your average dildo, and the pronounced glans textures are extra stimulating. It even has a nice suction cup that can also work great in a strap-on harness.

I’ve been coveting a Vixskin dildo for some time now! Having heard about their ultra-realistic, dual-density design, I was very intrigued to see what all the hype was about. Looking through their collection, the Tex stood out to me as the perfect size — girthy enough to be filling but not too much of a stretch.

All About the Look

I won’t lie, I was initially disappointed that I couldn’t get the Vixskin Tex in a beautiful colorway like tie-dye or a galaxy pattern. I’ve never been particularly attracted to very realistic-looking dildos — they creep me out a little in an ‘uncanny-valley’-esque way. However, once I opened up the Tex, I actually really enjoyed the look of it! It’s all one, uniform color, and the crafting that has gone into the shape of the glans and shaft is really something else. For me, it’s realistic enough to suspend my disbelief when using it, but not enough to freak me out!

My New Go-To Dildo

One squish of that dual density head and I was certain that the Tex would feel pretty amazing to use. It really does have a very realistic feel, and felt wonderfully filling to use. After giving it a test run by myself, I recruited the help of my boyfriend. Beforehand, I was little nervous bringing a realistic dildo into the bedroom. Even though I knew he wouldn’t be rude, I didn’t know if it would feel a little weird for him. However, he was a champ about it! It was really nice to have him use it on me, leaving my hands-free for clitoral stimulation. It was much more intense with him controlling the thrusts, and I actually had to guide him to do more of a grinding motion so it didn’t feel overwhelming.

Unsuccessful Suction Cup Escapades

After learning how great the Vixskin Tex could feel when used hands-free, I went on a quest to try to use the suction cup. While it’s not designed to have a true suction cup (Vixen call it a ‘non-slip base’), this dildo does stick quite well to flat surfaces. However, once I tried to place it in the right spot on my wall and ride it that way, it turned into a lesson on dealing with frustration. Every time I thought I had found the right position, it would fall off before I could properly thrust. Even my own advice from Bedbible’s blog post on where to stick a suction cup dildo couldn’t help me, as I found that the suction just wasn’t strong enough, or the dildo itself wasn’t long enough for me to reach. It’s fair enough, as it’s not meant to be a true suction cup — but keep this in mind if hands-free riding is your goal.

On most sex toy stores, the Vixen Tex is only available in two or three skin tones. I received the 'Vanilla' color option, which looked relatively realistic, but not enough to reach 'uncanny valley' levels. The shaft of the Tex is slightly curved, and while the head is pronounced, the shaft is totally smooth. The gentle curve was great for hitting the g-spot perfectly, but I did wish that it was a little longer.

The dimensions of the Vixskin Tex make it a dream to use both for masturbation and with a partner, without needing too much warm up. The base is easy to hold, and while Vixen don't explicitly state that it's a suction cup, it does stick to surfaces pretty well. However, once you try and actually use it, it's not overly strong. I found myself getting frustrated when trying to use it hands-free, and ended up going back to the usual hands-on method. However, the 'non-slip' base is supposed to make it easier to use in a harness (though I didn't try this out for myself).

There's no doubt that the Tex is a high-quality dildo. Made from premium, hand-poured silicone, it's totally body-safe and made to last. The shaft does have a slight wrinkly texture to it and the silicone can feel a little sticky, but as Vixen state on their website, this is not a sign of lower quality. To mitigate the tackiness, you can coat the dildo in corn starch and then rinse it off before use.

Vixskin dildos are not on par with your average jelly or PVC dildo, and their price point reflects that. Ranging from around $105 to $135, the Tex is certainly an investment, but if you're looking for a wonderfully-realistic dildo in the Tex's dimensions, I would highly recommend it. However, if you're after something a just a little longer, I recommend the very popular Vixen Mustang as an alternative. The only sticking point for me is that it doesn't come with a storage pouch — Vixen, why?!

The sensation of this dual density dildo is definitely different to more solid dildos I've tried in the past, but I really enjoyed it! It's a really nice, filling feeling, without taking too much effort! As I mentioned previously, I wasn't successful in using the Tex hands-free, but with my partner, it was super satisfying.

The packaging for all Vixen Creations dildos is very underwhelming. They come in a clear plastic tube with the Vixskin logo on the front, which I don't think feels particularly luxurious or high-quality. Annoyingly, once you pop the top, it's practically impossible to get it to close again, so I had to find an alternative storage solution.

The dual density-ness of the Vixskin Tex is achieved by hand-pouring a firm, silicone core with a special, squishy silicone formula around it that has silicone lube suspended within it. Plus, it's totally non-porous and body-safe, which is much better than other cheap, squishy dildos on the market. To clean it, just use a mild, unscented soap and water, and make sure to get into all of the crevices. Then, leave it to air-dry before storing by itself (as it doesn't react well to being stored with other silicone toys). Since it doesn't come with a storage bag, I used one that I bought from a local craft store. You can also sterilize it by boiling it in a pot of water for 3 minutes.

  • Premium-quality, hand-poured silicone
  • Dual density design with firm core and squishy outer layer
  • Realistic glans design
  • Suction cup base
  • Perfect size for everyday use

  • A little too short to use comfortably as a hands-free dildo
  • Suction cup could be stronger
  • Limited color range on most stores
  • Expensive

The Vixskin Tex is a real winner for me! It's a blast to use both alone and with a partner, and the squishy, realistic-feeling shaft is a pleasure to play with. As a go-to dildo, it ticks almost every box! My only complaint is that the shaft was not quite long enough for me to use hands-free, especially when the suction of the base was not so strong.

The Tex doesn’t come with a user manual per se, but it’s super simple to use. My ‘how-to’ guide above has some tips!

The Tex and the Maverick do have a similar shape, but they are different sizes. The Tex has an insertable length of 5.25 inches, while the Maverick has 7 inches of insertable length. The Tex is 1.75 inches in diameter, while the Maverick is 2 inches. This may not sound like much of a difference, but it definitely makes the Maverick more of a challenge to insert. If you enjoy a very filling, stretched sensation, go for the Maverick, but if you're looking for something more approachable, try the Tex.

The Goodfella has the same Vixskin, dual-density construction, but is a very different dildo than the Tex. It's longer but slightly slimmer, and has realistic balls that hang down in front of a harness. Designed to be used as a packer as well as a dildo, the Goodfella has a differently-shaped base that doesn't function as a suction cup. If you're buying for strap-on play or packing, you may prefer the Goodfella, but for a more traditional dildo experience, you may want to opt for the Tex.

Yes! You can boil the Tex in a pot of water for 3 minutes, or stick it in the top shelf of your dishwasher (without any dirty dishes) on a sanitize cycle.

I would say that dildo beginners could use the Tex, but you should definitely spend time warming up and getting aroused beforehand. This is especially true if you're planning on using it anally. If you're looking for a dildo you can use with minimal warm-up, I would opt for a Vixskin model that's a bit slimmer, like the Mustang or the Spur.
