4 Best Metal Butt Plugs

   Isabelle Uren
Ever since I tried my first metal butt plug, I’ve been a total convert, and it’s now one of my favorite anal toy materials. In this review, I’ll share my all time favorite metal butt plug (check out the ‘Expert Pick’), as well as four other fantastic metal butt plugs that have been tested by the Bedbible team. I’ve got some cheaper and more beginner-friendly options and well as some luxurious or more advanced plugs.

“The njoy Pure Plug is everything I want out of a butt plug.”

Self-confessed “anal-play novice,” Rachel, reviewed the njoy Pure Plug for us and was blown away by just how great it was! She loved that it was beginner-friendly, yet still “felt substantial and satisfying inside.” She “wore it during PIV (penis in vagina) sex and loved every second of it!” njoy Toys have mastered the art of simple but highly effective design when it comes to sex toys, and I’m a massive fan of their whole range! The design of the pure plug makes it “much more comfortable to wear” compared to the standard butt plug design. The thin neck in particular allows the sphincter to shrink, helping the plug to stay in place and reducing the stretch around the anus.  Rachel also found that she preferred the loop handle of the Pure Plug as “it doesn’t get in the way or dig in anywhere as you wear it.” I really struggled to find any flaws with this metal butt plug, which is precisely why it’s today’s test winner! My only comment would be that the small could be quite an investment for something you might want to size up from soon. However, it’s great that there’s also a medium and large size available!

This is by far my favorite butt plug in my collection! Is it ridiculously bougie? Yes! Does it make me feel like a princess when I wear it? Absolutely! I never knew anal could feel this luxuriously sexy! Let’s start with the star of the show — the massive Swarovski crystal in the base of the plug. It has such an amazing shine that catches the light beautifully. It feels like wearing a beautiful item of jewellery and I love how elegant it looks during use. It makes me feel like I’m dressed up, even when I’m not wearing anything! The plug itself is also a work of art! The stainless steel is polished to perfection and slides in easily. Once in place, it also sits so comfortable and has a lovely satisfying weight! There really is nothing I can fault about this metal butt plug. The only reason it didn’t get the top spot was the price, that might not be worth it for those more interested in the function rather than the design. However, this is a butt plug that I will treasure in my collection for years to come!

Metal butt plugs don’t have to be pricey and there are loads of more budget-friendly options out there. If I were to start my journey again, I’d definitely start with a cheaper model to see if the sensation was something I enjoyed! I love that this small rainbow butt plug is both beginner and wallet-friendly, while still being really beautiful! Naomi reviewed it for us and “love[d] the rainbow color scheme and the cute heart gem.” She found that “insertion was easy and comfortable” thanks to the nice taper at the tip of the plug. She also enjoyed “the diversity of the metal plug” and being able “to experiment with temperature play.” As Naomi is a little more experience with anal play, she did find herself craving something a little bigger, but “still wear[s] it occasionally solely for the exciting appearance.”

4 Best with Tail

I love tail butt plugs, but the ones I’ve tried left me a bit underwhelmed in terms of quality so I was really impressed by this stainless steel one from Dominix Deluxe, which is made from great materials and also has a lovely thick, fluffy tail that will have you feeling like the cutest kitty there is! Our tester, Mariah, was surprised by how much she liked the design, commenting that “even if you aren’t into pet play, we can all admit that a tail butt plug is super cute, right?” I definitely agree! She also really enjoyed how it felt during use and the weight was “both comfortable and notably present when inserted as well.” The tail is also “soft, fluffy, and overall well put together” so it feels sexy rather than a novelty! The smartest thing about this plug is that the tail twists off, so you can clean the plug and tail separately. I don’t think I would ever buy a tail butt plug without this feature as even the idea of trying to prevent soggy faux fur while cleaning the plug properly gives me the ick! Mariah did comment that it would be nicer if the plug had a nicer finish when you remove the plug so it also looked nice as a plug by itself without the tail.

Things to Consider When Buying

  • Size – It might be tempting to buy a large metal butt plug, but you should really choose one that’s sized correctly for you. Sizes range from under an inch in diameter to over two inches, which means you won’t have any trouble finding stainless steel butt plugs in your size:
  • Shape – Size matters, but so does shape! Although not required, a tapered tip is desirable for most. Tapered tips grow gradually larger as the toy is inserted into you, making the process very easy to do with an adequate amount of lubrication.
  • Type of Metal – Although stainless steel butt plugs are the most common, you can also find butt plugs made from other metals as well (like aluminum). We generally recommend sticking to surgical-grade stainless steel, as you won’t run into any allergic reactions with this metal. However, if you choose a different type of metal, make sure to do your research for any potential health hazards.
  • Flared Base – It’s vital that your new steel butt plug has a flared base. This type of base will prevent you from accidentally over inserting the plug, getting it stuck inside of your anus, and—unable to get it out yourself—needing to take an unfortunate trip to the emergency room.
  • Style – Buying a plain plug is always an option, but you can also choose from a wide selection of jewelled butt plugs! Since they use fake jewels, these toys offer a sexy style without an outrageous price tag. Not into jewels? Tails are another option!

How to Use Metal Butt Plugs

Before you use any anal toy, cleaning ‘down there’ is a good idea for both you and your partner(s)! Nobody has a bum that self-lubricates (but wouldn’t that be brilliant?), so it’s really important that you use plenty of your preferred lube- the wetter the better! (Never use silicone based lube with silicone toys or condoms).

Get clean

Get clean

Most people like to ensure they have been to the toilet before they insert any toy inside their anus, and some like to shower/wash before- it’s up to you, but you should feel clean and comfortable; you can also douche if you want to feel squeaky clean.

Lube all round!

Lube all round!

Start by using a generous amount of your preferred lube on your anus, and on the plug itself. Water-based lube is a great choice, but some people like to use silicone for anal play.

Relax

Relax

You can insert a finger to stretch your anus a little, but make sure there is plenty of lube involved. Try massaging your anus with the lube, and inserting a finger; having an orgasm before insertion also helps to relax the muscle.

Position

Position

You may want to squat, be on all fours, or lie on your back to insert the plug- whatever’s comfiest for you.

Start slow

Start slow

Once you’re relaxed and ready to play, start by slowly pushing the lubed plug into your anus; you will feel a fullness, as it slips in and stimulates your nerves. (Remember, using a butt plug shouldn’t be painful!)

How to Clean Metal Butt Plugs

It is important to clean your metal butt plug before and after use, to avoid bacteria infiltrating your anus. To clean, you'll need: warm water and sex toy cleaner or a mild unscented soapm, and a clean, dry towel. You can safely boil your metal plug to sterilize it. When your plug is clean and thoroughly dry, you should store it safely. Always find a place where you can store your toy(s) with plenty of room for others, and where they will be kept away from anything like dust or wetness- these will only cause bacteria to develop!

FAQ

You can use any lube with a metal butt plug. You are best opting for thicker lubrication that's designed for anal play to keep things moving smoothly.

Some butt plugs are designed for long-wear and some are designed for short-wear: always check the instructions and advice on how to safely use your butt plug.

Yes! Butt plugs are safe when used correctly, and stored/cleaned properly. Metal butt plugs are body-safe and can even be sterilized making them one of the best options out there!

No; using a butt plug should never be painful. Be sure to use plenty of lube, and relax beforehand. If it hurts, stop!

Similar to silicone butt plugs, metal butt plugs will make your anus feel “full” when inserted. However, metal butt plugs can also feel very cold when first inserted! Fortunately, you can easily heat/cool the plug to your liking before insertion simply using a bowl of warmed/chilled water.

If you generally don't enjoy the feeling of a weighted, non-yielding material in your butt, you might want to opt for a softer silicone butt plug instead. But if you like the idea of using a metal butt plug and you want to make the experience just a tad more comfortable, there are several things you could do. 1) Warm the butt plug up to body temperature before insertion. Warm it up in a glass of warm water or hold it against your skin for a few minutes. Making the temperature less shocking during insertion might feel nicer. 2) As with any other form of anal play: lube it up! Using enough lube to keep things gliding smoothly will make for a more comfortable insertion and wear. Perhaps some anal lube (that is often thicker and doesn't dry out as easily) will feel better. 3) Warm up your anus for taking in the size butt plug you want. Try inserting some fingers or smaller toys for and slowly work your way up to avoid any unnecessary discomfort when using the metal butt plug.

Again, this is not very different from taking out silicone butt plugs. Although, since the metal is much firmer than silicone, I would still exercise some extra caution during removal. Make sure there's enough lube on the area. Try slowly pulling the plug out by the base or handle while you gently push the plug out with your sphincter. Go slow, breathe, and don't try to force it our with your hands until your anus is comfortable.

Metal butt plug

A metal butt plug is a type of sex toy which is designed for anal insertion. They are fun devices, which can spice up any solo or partner(s) based sex-life. The metal material can be heated or cooled for temperature play, which is why a lot of people enjoy using plugs made with this material; this material is also very easy to keep clean, and lasts longer than other materials when properly maintained.
