The Black Rose blindfold from Bondage Boutique has a slim profile and an ergonomic shape to fit around your nose whilst still covering your eyes. The front has a shiny print with a subtle rose pattern, while the back is padded and covered in short faux fur/fleece. The strap is made of a wide strip of elastic.
In the past, when my partner and I wanted to indulge in some sensory deprivation and sensory play, we would reach for a cheap sleep mask bought from the local drugstore. It worked okay, but didn’t really get either of us in the mood! So, when presented with the opportunity to try some nicer, more sensual blindfold designs, I was excited!
Ow, My Eyes!
Looking at the design, I think it’s quite pretty! The embossed rose design on the eye piece definitely gives ‘elegant BDSM’ vibes, and the fleece-y backing is soft to the touch. However, once I put it on, things went downhill quick. Even after having really stretched out the elastic a few times, as soon as I put it on my head, it started pressing down on my eyes in a very uncomfortable way. I know that my head is a bit big, so I asked my smaller-headed partner to try it on as well, and he said exactly the same thing. The problem, I think, is both that the elastic strap is a bit short (though this will likely get better with time) and that the eye piece is pretty stiff, so it doesn’t conform that well to the shape of your face. The shape of the eye piece goes above your nose and only covers the eyes, which does mean that it blocks out a lot of light, but also means that your eyes really get pressed down. We ended up not using this mask during our sessions, unfortunately.
I love the subtle black rose design on the front of this blindfold — it feels very feminine and sexy. The fleece-y fur backing is also fine, though I do wish it was a bit fluffier. Unfortunately, the elastic strap is just a bit too short! Because the strap is tight, the shape of the eye piece means that it presses lot on your eyes.
The elastic band makes it easy to slip on the Black Rose blindfold in the heat of the moment. It also means that it fits a range of head sizes without having to worry about adjusting it manually with Velcro or buckles. However, as I've mentioned, unless you have a small head, this blindfold may feel pretty tight!
I wouldn't put the Bondage Boutique Black Rose blindfold in the luxury category in terms of quality, but it is still quite nice. One of the places I think this is most apparent is the lack of flexibility, which also contributes to how much it presses on your eyes.
At $10.99, I'm not sure if I can recommend the Black Rose blindfold. While I have actually tested and recommended other blindfolds that cost more than this, they were also a lot more comfortable! If you want a blindfold that's a bit nicer than your average sleep mask, and you have a small head or don't mind doing a lot of elastic stretching, this could be a good option, but for those of us who don't fall into those categories, I think that finding another option is a better idea.
This blindfold just didn't perform well for us. I like the look, but if it's not comfortable to wear, then we're just not going to wear it! However, looking at the other reviews of this item on Lovehoney's website, I can see that plenty of people did enjoy it. It is soft on the skin and does block out all light, so there are some definite good things about it.
This blindfold comes in a very simple, clear plastic bag with a Bondage Boutique sticker on the front. It is sealed, which is nice, but otherwise it was very underwhelming. It is a blindfold, so it's not the end of the world, but I always appreciate when companies do make an effort to make the unboxing experience a bit special.
Lovehoney doesn't actually state the materials that this blindfold is made from, but it's likely polyester. The shiny front can be wiped to clean it if necessary, but I wouldn't recommend that on the fur backing. Instead, try to keep the backing clean to avoid damaging the material.

When I first saw the Black Rose blindfold, all signs pointed to me enjoying it! The design is pretty and easy to slip on and off without the need for adjustments, which I love. However, once me and my partner actually tried it on, it was just too tight for either of us. It definitely blocks out light, but was just too uncomfortable for us to use.
