5 Best Bondage Kits

   Isabelle Uren
If I were to start my bondage collection from scratch, I’d definitely go for a bondage kit to get it off to a good start! I’ve picked out the very best bondage kits tested by the Bedbible team. As well as looking at the scores given by our reviewers, I looked for kits that provide quality, versatility and bang for you buck!

The sensation play kit stood out as the overall best bondage kit for it’s versatility and quality. I love that you get a range of sensation play tools, restraints and sex toys in one package. It’s like a glorious pick and mix of pleasure! Vicki tested it out for us and was also impressed “this kit delivers endless fun and versatility” that allowed her and her partner to enjoy “a symphony of different sensations.” She liked that “You don’t have to use all the toys at once—though you definitely can if the mood calls for it,” and found that they worked really well together. Although the restraints aren’t the most secure and won’t stand up to more intense play, they “have a soft, silky feeling that’s super comfortable on the skin.” Vicki “especially enjoyed exploring candle play,” writing  The warm wax added a whole new layer to our experience, introducing a mix of sensations that ranged from a slight sting to a quick burst of pleasurable heat. While the restraints and butt plug are both beginner-friendly, I would say the candle is a little more advanced. I does mean you have a kit that can grow with you though!

This kit was tested by Jason and his partner who describe themselves as a ““vanilla” couple” who are “complete noobs when it comes to BDSM.” They loved it, “It was definitely an experiment but one we both enjoyed.” This is exactly why it scored the best for beginners spot in this review! I think it makes for a fun, sensual, and non-intimidating entry to the world of BDSM. They both thought the Bind Date Bondage kit was “a great way to introduce you and your partner to the world of BDSM.” The kit also does a nice job of showing that “BDSM doesn’t necessarily mean pain.” It also delivers “a lot of BANG for the buck,” while still being good quality, and Jason thought that “all the items felt premium.”  He did mention that he felt the Kama Sutra cards and sex dice were the “odd balls” but I can see this being great prompts for when you need some fresh ideas!

Our tester, Mo, describes this bondage kit from Sportsheets as “a fun introduction to light bondage” and I couldn’t agree more! It’s a pretty basic set but it’s a great way to try out bondage at a low price point. He liked that this kit can “add a little bit of spice to the bedroom without pushing the limits of comfort.” As well as being a great cheaper option, I would also recommend this to beginners looking to try out bondage before dropping cash on something more expensive. Mo particularly like that the blindfold. For him, the “inability to anticipate where [his wife] was going next made each touch sizzle.” Combined with the restriction of the restraints, this simple set has the potential to create some pretty exciting scenarios. The cuffs “are functional, comfortable, and close with simple hook-and-loop,” which is less intimidating than a buckle fastening and very quick and easy to use. I think Mo sums up the quality of this kit really well: “I wouldn’t expect this kit to be around for years but that’s not to say it’s cheaply made.” While it’s not the most robust or versatile kit out there, it works well and has a very reasonable price!

Many bondage kits are aimed at BDSM newbies, but I wanted to include a kit geared to those with a little more experience who want a more intense bondage experience! Enter the Lovehoney All You Need and More Bondage Kit! Our reviewer, Jesse, is more experienced with bondage and “was pleasantly surprised overall with this collection of bondage toys .” He like that the faux leather restraints are “soft and sexy in both feel and appearance.” The buckle fastening also makes them more secure than velcro. Unfortunately, the chains that came attached to them were a little weak and “the linking clip mechanisms were very poor functioning.”  He was “very impressed” by the bullet vibrator, writing that it has a “fantastic amount of settings and vibrations.” I also think it’s great that it can be used inside the silicone dildo or cock ring for some added vibrations. Overall, I think the versatility and slightly higher quality of this kit makes ideal for stepping things up from beginner bondage kit!

I tested this kit out for Bedbible a couple of years ago, and it’s still one of my most used bondage items in my rather large collection. It’s so convenient to use! I leave the under mattress strap in place so we can just attach the cuffs whenever we are in the mood for some bondage! Usually I prefer the security of buckles on restraints as they create a more intense power dynamic. However, I love that these are velcro fastening. It’s so quick and easy to be tied up and once I’m all strapped in, I completely forget that it’s only velcro keeping me there! The restraints are also very comfortable so we can enjoy long sessions without them digging in or needing to be adjusted. I like that they can also be clipped to each other or to other restraint points for a bit more mileage from the kit! I highly recommend this bondage kit to bondage newbies and those with more experience!

How to Talk to Your Partner About Trying Bondage

Broaching the topic of trying bondage with your partner can feel scary but I have some top tips to make it easier on all involved!
  1. Start the conversation in a non-sexual setting when you are both calm, relaxed, and available to talk.
  2. Mention that you’ve been thinking about wanting to try something new with them that you think you will enhance your sex life and be fun for you both.
  3. Explain why you think bondage or BDSM would be fun (e.g., is it the novelty of trying something new together of the thrill of having your partner in charge/ being the one in charge.
  4. Suggest some beginner-friendly ways to try bondage. I recommend starting with some soft, velcro wrist restraints.
  5. Give your partner time to think about your ideas and ask questions.

What's in a typical bondage kit?

Bondage kits contain all kinds of tantalizing treats that you and a partner can use to fulfill your BDSM dreams, so let’s take a little dive into the kinds of things you’d expect to find in your average bondage kit!
  • Restraints – An absolute staple of bondage kits, bondage restraints can come in a few different forms. From bondage cuffs to ropes, to silky lengths of fabric, the idea is still the same: to make sure that your partner is restrained and at your mercy! A bondage restraint kit can be really fun!
  • Blindfold – Another bondage kit staple, blindfolds are great to deprive someone of one of their primary senses. If they can’t see, they don’t know what you’re about to do to them. Blindfolds can really help heighten the mood and sharpen their other senses until every little touch and tickle is almost orgasmic!
  • Tickler – Tickling can be fun for some, and torture for others! But it’s all about that teasing and tantalizing! When you’ve got someone restrained and blindfolded, introduce the super soft touch of a tickler. Stroke it up and down their body and tease those erogenous zones until they can’t take any more.
  • Impact toolBDSM whips and floggers are an essential part of a bondage kit! Whereas the tickler provides a soft, delicate touch, an impact tool delivers a harder, stinging, and deliciously painful aspect. Mix the tickler and the impact tool up, switching from one to the other to drive them absolutely wild!
  • Nipple toys – Ah, one of the most common erogenous zones on the body! Nipple clamps are one of the most fun wearable sex items you can find. From weighted nipple clamps to ones joined by chains, incorporating nipples into your BDSM play is a game changer!

How to use a bondage kit

Using a bondage kit can vary from person to person, as everyone has different ways of creating their own pleasure; it is important to research anything that you are unsure about, to make sure that you are using the objects safely! With a bondage kit, you can practice dominance, submission, discipline, bondage, sadism, and masochism; of course, you don’t have to use the kit for these things specifically, and whatever you decide to do, everyone involved should be consenting and comfortable to partake in the activities! If you’re new to bondage, here are a few ways that you can use the kits for maximum pleasure:

Domination

Domination

This can include, tying your partner up (bondage tape, rope, bedspreaders), controlling their actions during sex (cuffs), and controlling their orgasms (vibrators, clit suckers, dildos, fleshlights) to name a few! There are plenty of ways that you can explore dominance in the bedroom.

Submission

Submission

Submitting to a partner can include, practicing obedience, giving your partner control of your body (bondage tape, rope, masks), and allowing your partner to make decisions for you. If a submissive refuses or does not do as the dominant asks, they may be punished (floggers, whips)- the submissive often enjoys this.

Sensory play

Sensory play

Sensory play is often performed on a submissive; the dominant may use a feather tickler, nipple clamps, temperature play, clit suckers etc. to drive their partner wild or experience different sensations when blindfolded. Sensory play can increase the intensity of orgasms, as a masked person’s senses will be heightened to make up for the absence of sight!

How to clean

It is important to clean any sex toy before and after use to avoid bacteria infiltrating your vagina, anus, or mouth. To clean, you'll need: warm water, sex toy cleaner/antibacterial soap, and a clean, dry towel. Cleaning vibrators/motorized toys: Never submerge your motorized toys in water! (If battery powered, take the batteries out before cleaning). The easiest way to clean them is to wipe them down using a warm, damp cloth with antibacterial soap. Be sure to either air dry thoroughly, or dry with a towel until bone dry. For non-porous materials/porous materials: If not motorized, feel free to submerge your toy in warm soapy water, and thoroughly dry before storing. For porous materials, bacteria can build up over time in the pores of the toy, which means you should take extra care when cleaning, and ensure the toy is bone dry before storing. For borosilicate glass/stainless steel toys, you can safely boil these to sterilize them; borosilicate glass is highly resistant to thermal shock, meaning it is safe to boil (and this is why it's great for temperature play!). When your toys are clean and thoroughly dry, you should store them safely; find a place where you can store your toy(s) with plenty of room for the others, and where they will be kept away from anything like dust or moisture- these will only cause bacteria to develop!

FAQ

BDSM stands for Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, and Sadomasochism. BDSM can be a tantalizing and fun experience for everyone involved, and can even bring you and your partner(s) closer together through trust, however you should research before you attempt it, as you want to make sure you have all the information you need to feel safe and comfortable.

The best way to introduce bondage play, is to talk to your partner about what you're both comfortable with/would like to try. Start out small: try tying wrists together, and if that is received well, then try ankles. You can tie wrists to ankles or you can also spread body parts away from each other instead. If you feel you want to try something more, you can try using a ball gag, or clamps- feather ticklers are great for sensory play.

Clitoris clamps are great for increasing sensitivity during sex; many people like to wear them before receiving oral sex, so that orgasms are stronger. Start with a drop of water-based lube on your clit, and go slow when attaching the clamp; a clitoris clamp should never be painful to wear! The large end of the clamp should sit over the base of your clit. (Never wear your clamp for more than 10 minutes as this can reduce blood flow)

Feather ticklers are great sensory toys, as they heighten sensitivity on your body; this makes for a better sexual experience! Use the soft feathers to tickle your partner's body, and be sure to listen to what your partner likes and dislikes. As you use the feathers, you will learn which parts are your partner's favorite!

What is a Bondage Kit?

A bondage kit can provide you with pleasurable tools to live out your wildest BDSM fantasies; from masks to butt plugs, there are plenty of kits available to suit everyone's kinky desires! Usually enjoyed best with a partner, you can let your wild, kinky, and freaky side out to play. After all, being tied up, used, and abused really can be fun, exciting, and oh so naughtily dangerous!
