4 Best Thigh Cuffs & Restraints

   Cassie M
While wrist and ankle cuffs get most of the good publicity, thigh cuffs are an underestimated piece of bondage gear. They’re so fun to use but are less common. That’s also why finding good quality thigh cuffs can be a bit challenging. In this review, I’ve compiled all of the thigh cuffs and restraints that we’ve tested at Bedbible and rated them in terms of design, ease of use, and quality.

The Strict Bondage Harness with Bows is a clear Test Winner based on our tester, Kiki’s, review. Not only do these thigh restraint look absolute adorable with the little bows on the back but it’s versatile as well! The removable hand cuffs allow you to explore with lots of different bondage positions and scenarios other than just wearing it to look cute. Kiki immediately fell in love with the design: “I am strictly a gold jewelry wearer so when I saw that the hardware was all gold, I wanted to squeal. The decorative bows add a playful, feminine touch that sets it apart from more utilitarian bondage wear.” While most parts of the harness are adjustable, Kiki had some difficulty getting it to fit: “It only comes in two sizes, M/L and XL/2XL. I was sent the M/L and although it does fit, it’s not PERFECT. […] I wish the length of the straps that go across your butt/back of thighs was also adjustable. I feel like that would have made the adjustability near perfect.” Although, if your size happens to align with the sizing for this harness, I still think it’s a great set of thigh cuffs with a twist! For such an affordable price, they definitely deliver on style and performance.

The DOMINIX Deluxe Leather Wrist to Thigh Restraints are a great example of this classic wrist-to-thigh cuff that is one of the most popular versions of thigh restraints. I personally LOVE this concept of having your wrists pinned to the sides or the fronts of your thighs. For something so simple that doesn’t require much additional bondage gear to set up, I actually think it they’re a genius way to add (almost) full body restraint to your play time. Our tester, Catherina, really enjoyed these thigh restraints because of this versatility. Although, her main point of concern was the seemingly weak seams connecting the wrists to the thighs: “If you’re looking to purchase these, I would only say to look carefully at the sizing, and really evaluate your strength and the roughness of your play.”

This thigh sling is a great alternative if you want less restriction, and more support. It’s a unique product that’s well-designed, comfortable, and isn’t restricted by weight or thigh size. The sturdy stirrups keep the legs secured to the padded neck rest. I like that you can fully adjust the connecting straps so you can decide how far you want your thighs spread apart. Our tester, Mariah, was blown away by how efficiently this freed up your hands and allowed for deeper penetration: “I’ve been sexually active for a long time, but let me tell you, I don’t think I’ve ever actually worried about someone else becoming a permanent part of my anatomy before. Either way, it was AWESOME!”

MaterialsNylon, Metal

Now, this is an affordable option for those who want to enjoy some full-body bondage with thigh restraints. The Purple Reins Body Harness may look a bit complicated but it’s fairly simple to use. I do wish it came with instructions, simply because it can look a bit confusing, but our tester, Lady Red, found it easy to use. “My personal experience with this toy is that it is not a toy, it’s an experience. I have been into BDSM for some years now. I enjoy being handcuffed and dominated — I have been tied to the bed but I have never been tied in the way this harness does.” She found that it was surprisingly comfortable and strong, despite the straps looking a bit flimsy. The main drawback has to be the lack of customization available in how to assemble this harness: “I believe there are only a few positions that you can be in while using this harness.” Of course, if you do love a good face-down-ass-up kind of position, this may be a perfect fit! Either way, it’s an affordable way to have fun with thigh restraints.

Thigh Cuff Positions

Thigh cuffs can be a great tool to spice up some standard sex positions and introduce elements of bondage to your regular sex life! Perhaps you’ve bought a set of wrist to thigh cuffs but you’re not sure how to get the most use out of them. Here are some of my favorite ways to have fun with thigh restraints!

The Half Hogtie

The Half Hogtie - Thigh Cuff Positions
The hogtie is a position that involves the ‘restraintee’ being laid on their stomach, with their limbs tied together behind them. Now, using thigh cuffs instead of ankle cuffs is a great way to make this position a tad less intense. By securing their wrists to the backs of their thighs, the submissive is able to stretch their legs and feel more comfortable for the submissive.

Face Down Ass Up

Face Down Ass Up - Thigh Cuff Positions
The intensified version of “doggy-style” we all know and love can easily be elevated by securing your lover’s wrists to their thigh cuffs from the side or while their arms are on their backs.

Spread Eagle

Spread Eagle - Thigh Cuff Positions
Whether you’re on your back or standing up bent over, a thigh spreader bar can be a fun tool to elevate penetration or oral play!

How to Pick The Perfect Thigh Restraints for You

Although many models look visually similar, there’s actually a bit more to consider than just looks alone when selecting a set of thigh cuffs. Here’s a short list of things to consider:
  • Materials – Most materials can be modified to look a certain way, but the actual “feel” of the material against the skin is more important. Leather is always a common choice in BDSM gear, but there are many artificial options available for vegans and people who prefer cruelty-free products.
  • Comfort – In addition to the main material used, you’ll also want to consider the possibility of any pinching (from the straps) or uncomfortable positioning that the cuffs might put you in. You might want to make sure there’s some kind of soft padding in the inside.
  • Fastening – Velcro fastening is easier to put on/take off (making them perfect for beginner BDSM), but is much easier to escape than actual buckles. On the other hand, while buckles may restrain a person more effectively, the time it takes to properly fasten them could kill the mood.
  • Adjustability & Sizing – You should take your measurements and have them on hand when shopping for cuffs. It’s important that your new thigh cuffs fit properly, although the measurements won’t need to be exact if the cuffs in question are adjustable!
  • Amount of Restriction – Depending on the intended purpose, more or less mobility may be desired. Perhaps you’re looking for a full body harness with thigh cuffs or maybe you’re just looking for individual wrist to thigh cuffs.
  • Fastening mechanisms and anchors – Make sure you know exactly what kind of fastening mechanisms you’re working with when considering a new piece of bondage gear. Does it have carabiner clips, lobster clips, or a third option? How many potential fastening points are there and where? How can these thigh restraints be combined qith other types of restraints?

How to use thigh cuffs

Thigh cuffs can be daunting, especially for beginners. Here are some tips on how to get started, and what to do when you have!

Ease into bondage play

Ease into bondage play

As with any sex, you should establish a level of trust with your partner before you engage in bondage play. Rushing into full bondage can be extremely detrimental to your pleasure. Before you use thigh cuffs, you may want to test the cuff on one thigh, so you can get a feel for the material and fit! Thigh cuffs are also a great way to ease into the experience of bondage. Have a safe word

Have a safe word

No matter how in sync you and your partner are, having a safe word is vital to a healthy and comfortable sex life when you’re using bondage and restraints. It’s key for the restrained partner to be able to pull the dominant partner out of the fantasy and back into the real world. That means ‘stop’, ‘no’, or other ordinarily negative affirmations should NOT be used—you’ll want to find a word that is completely disassociated with the scene.

Edging

Edging

Orgasms are great. It’s what we’re all here for! But for when you want to go all night, and you don’t want to get too overstimulated, edging comes into play. Edging is the practice of stopping just before orgasm to prolong sexual arousal, and it has an insane amount of benefits! Thigh cuffs can be great to keep your legs open, so you’re not tempted to squeeze them shut!

BDSM

BDSM

Thigh cuffs can be great to incorporate into more intense bondage sessions, and can also be a great tool for dominant/submissive play. If you’re in a dom/sub relationship, thigh cuffs can serve a number of purposes,  they can even be an exciting toy to add to role-playing scenes! Check out our roundups of dildo gags, sex tables, and spreader bars for more inspiration.

Aftercare

Aftercare

Any good dom will tell you that aftercare is a vital aspect of BDSM. No matter how much you want it, a session of being treated ‘badly’ can take its toll on the body and mind. It’s important that the dominant partner listen to the submissive’s needs in this context – this could be anything from cuddling, treating minor injuries, rehydrating, or thoughtful communication about how the session went.

How to clean thigh cuffs

It's as important as with every sex toy to clean your thigh cuffs in order to prevent irritation and odors lingering. The good news is that it's very easy! You can take a simple, soapy washcloth to your cuffs (always check manufacturer's recommendations) in most cases, provided you rinse and dry thoroughly. Metal hardware can be washed in the same way, but should be dried immediately after cleaning to prevent rust. In some cases, the metal hardware is detachable, and you can throw your cuffs in the washing machine with everything else!

FAQ

Taking measurements from the widest point of your thigh will ensure you get the right fit! Compare it against the length listed in the features table, and if it's not adjustable, round up to the nearest size.

This can be subjective! If you have a leather kink, aesthetics are going to be key in your decision. If you want something comfortable and cute, you could consider fur or plush lined cuffs. Ideally, you'll want to find something with a bit of elastic in it, so you're not cutting off circulation in your thighs.

Good quality thigh cuffs will run you about $30-50 depending on material, company, and complexity of the design.

As a general rule of thumb, if you can slip two fingers snugly under the cuffs, you've got a good fit. You don't want them to be cutting off your circulation, and this gives you a little wiggle room to strain against them, too!

As with any sex toy, you'll want to store your thigh cuffs in a clean, dry place. Check to see if your cuffs come with a storage bag, as many (especially the more expensive ones) will often come with a bespoke case. If it doesn't, however, it's perfectly fine to hang them in your wardrobe, as long as you know it's safe from prying eyes!

No, they aren't. If you don't tie them up too tightly and you use them responsible during your bondage session, they are totally safe and fun to use.

Yes! You can use bondage ropes, silk scarfs and even buy the materials you need to create them!

You can find them in physica sex stores and in online sites as well of course! There are different kinds of wrist and thigh restraints so shop around to find the one that you like the most.

As the name implies, wrist to thigh cuffs binds your wrists to your thighs. Although similar, hogtie restraints bind your wrists to your ankles, rather than your thighs!

Due to their combination of simplicity and effectiveness, wrist to thigh cuffs are perfect for both complete beginners and experienced experts alike!

What are thigh restraints?

Thigh cuffs are used in bondage play to restrain the submissive's thighs and keep them in place. They can be incorporated into more intricate bondage play or used alone to take control of your partner's pleasure. Thigh cuffs are also great for doggy-style sex positions! Leather and faux leather are commonly used to make thigh cuffs, although alternative materials (such as polyester) are available as well. The restraints used vary from model to model, with buckles and velcro straps being two common options. Wrist to Thigh cuffs are commonly used in the bedroom or within the BDSM community. These cuffs hold your partner's wrists to their thighs. Alternatively, ankle cuffs can be attached to the thigh cuffs. The belt secures to the partner's thighs and has a handcuff attached to it. This is an exciting and thrilling way to explore bondage for both beginners and experts. These fun cuffs can be used to restrain your partner during BDSM or bondage, to enforce a power dynamic, or as an element of restraint.
