4 Best Bondage Tapes

   Cassie M
As someone who likes their bondage gear to be versatile and easily accessible, bondage tape is one of my favorite props to use in the bedroom. Which ones are the best on the market, though? In this review, I’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite bondage tapes here on Bedbible. I’ve compared the lengths, widths, and prices of each, and considered the overall quality in order to rank them properly. Let’s have a look!

“I enjoyed the Ouch! Bondage Tape a lot more than I thought I would! It’s so much fun to have creative freedom, and it’s so much quicker and easier to use than bondage rope!” Our tester, Isabelle, had a lot of fun with the Ouch! Bondage Tape, and actually gave it an overall score of 5/5! This is also why I’ve picked it out as our Test Winner for today. Compared to some of the other products in this review, this one definitely takes the cake in terms of overall quality. She enjoyed that “it was nice and wide so it covered a lot of area and didn’t dig in at all.” The durability was also put to the test: “I’ve really tried to pull my hands apart and while there’s a tiny bit of stretch, it doesn’t come apart!” While the tape isn’t completely opaque (which definitely was a pro in Isabelle’s opinion), the pink color is really gorgeous! Although, if that’s not quite your style, it’s also available in black.

2 Runner-Up

  • The sides of the tape can shed a little at first

I had the pleasure of testing out the Fetish Fantasy Pleasure Tape myself. This was my first time really using bondage tape with a partner, and I was so pleasantly surprised by it! At first, I was a bit skeptical of the quality, since the sides of the tape were shedding a bit. This may have been a one-time flaw from the manufacturer but I wasn’t exactly elated. Still, once the small bits of PVC had been removed, this wasn’t an issue and the tape performed admirably. It’s super strong and very difficult to escape. It doesn’t lose its adhesive abilities or integrity after each use, so you’re able to reuse the pieces of tape. That’s my favorite part, it just makes it seem a lot less wasteful than I initially thought bondage tape was. The tape itself is comfortably wide and pretty thick. The color is completely opaque and has this glossy, latex-y finish. While I loved the black, the Fetish Fantasy Pleasure Tape is also available in red and purple!

3 Budget-Friendly

Lovehoney Black Bondage Tape

 Lovehoney Black Bondage Tape

Lovehoney Black Bondage Tape

  • 20 m/65 ft long
  • 2 inches wide.

  • Great value for money
  • Feels soft and smooth on the skin
  • Also available in red and purple

  • Doesn't feel very durable
  • A bit too easy to escape
Lovehoney Black Bondage Tape
Length65.7 feet/787 inches
Width2 inches
MaterialsPVC
WaterproofYes
Storage Bag IncludedNo
Colors AvailableBlack, Red, Purple

The Lovehoney Black Bondage Tape is the best option for anyone on a budget. At this width and length, and with three different colors available, it definitely offers a lot of value for money! Our tester, Britnee,  enjoyed that the Lovehoney Black Bondage Tape is “portable, reusable, and comfortably doesn’t leave marks or bruises”. It’s also secure enough to add some nice pressure but also flexible enough not to cut off circulation unless it’s been applied too tightly. Even though Britnee and her partner found it very easy to use, “with vigorous movement/struggle, the tape became lax” and her hands were able to escape in certain positions. Additionally, she noted that “it becomes less effective if any moisture gets on it. Also, much like adhesive tape, it will stick to itself and tends to bunch up or roll.”  While there’s perhaps something to be said about the thickness of the tape causing these problems. I don’t think these issues are limited to this particular brand of bondage tape, since there’s definitely a learning curve to using it. As Britnee herself said: “practice makes perfect”, and the trick is definitely learning which positions and taping techniques work for you.

4 Best Decorative Tape

Scandal Lovers Tape

 Scandal Lovers Tape

Scandal Lovers Tape

  • 15 m/49 ft long
  • 1 inch wide.

  • Perfect for making decorative designs and harnesses
  • Good value for money
  • Available in red and black

  • Not suitable for heavy duty restraint
  • Can dig into the skin
Scandal Lovers Tape
Length49.25 feet/591 inches
Width1 inches
MaterialsPVC
WaterproofYes
Storage Bag IncludedNo
Colors AvailableRed, Black

The Scandal Lovers Tape stands out to me because of the smaller width. As our tester, Rachel, mentions in her review: “Most bondage tape is around two inches wide, the same size as a roll of duct tape or parcel tape. This one, on the other hand, is more like a roll of regular Scotch tape.”  The main drawback is definitely the comfort. Since the tape is quite narrow, “it can easily compress down and dig into the skin. You have to use a long length of tape and wrap a wide area to stop this from happening.”  On the bright side, this slim tape is perfect for making more intricate designs for body harnesses or breast bondage. It can also work well for creating more complicated restraints, which is great for making DIY sex toy mounts (securing sex toys to furniture or even your sub’s body for controlled pleasure). I personally love how versatile this tape is and how creative you get to be with it! In terms of performance, the small width doesn’t compromise its strength. Rachel found that “the tape was actually pretty hard to wriggle from if tightened enough.” While it is a fairly short roll of tape, the durability confirms how reusable it actually is, meaning you’ll have plenty of tape to play around with for a while.

What Can You Use Bondage Tape For?

Bondage tape is one of the most versatile products out there! There are so many creative ways to use it. The sky is the limit with this kind of stuff! In case you’re in need of some inspiration, here are some of my favorite ways to use it.

All Sorts of Bondage Positions

All Sorts of Bondage Positions - What Can You Use Bondage Tape For?
Obviously, bondage tape is specifically designed to be used as a less intense (and painful) alternative to using regular tape or duct tape for bondage sessions. The beauty of it is that it easily can be used on all kinds of body parts. Use your own creativity to come up with different bondage constellations! Here’s just some of the positions you can try out:
  • Tape wrists together (behind the back, around a permanent fixture, for example)
  • Tape ankles, knees, or thighs together
  • Tape wrists to ankles and get creative with the position
  • Tape arms down to your sides.

Blindfolds, Masks, and Gags

Blindfolds, Masks, and Gags - What Can You Use Bondage Tape For?
Wrap the bondage tape around the head and make sure to cover the eyes. There you have it! A super simple yet very sexy blindfold that’s easily removable and reusable. Why stop there, though? The sky’s the limit! You can fashion any kind of mask or bondage hood from bondage tape as well. Wrap the tape around your head, covering your mouth and you’ve got a great way to silence your partner’s moans. While I don’t recommend putting the tape itself inside the mouth (since PVC is porous and 100% safe to use on mucus membranes), it still works beautifully over a closed mouth!

Breast Bondage and Harnesses

Breast Bondage and Harnesses - What Can You Use Bondage Tape For?
This tape can easily be used to fashion some kind of sexy body harness without having to learn how to tie all kinds of knots. Breast bondage is also a great way to amp up intensity with your bondage tape. Tape up your lover’s breasts and prepare them for torturous impact or pleasurable pinching!

DIY Toy Mounts

DIY Toy Mounts - What Can You Use Bondage Tape For?
You can easily use the tape to secure vibrators or dildos to the body for comfort, accessibility, or even power play. Creativity is key, here! Tape up a dildo to your face for penetrative face-sitting, tape a masturbator between your lover’s legs for some elevated three-some fantasies, or tape a vibrator close to your lover’s sensitive spots and watch them squirm through a forced orgasm.

Why You Should Avoid Using Real Duct Tape

While duct tape may seem to ‘get the job done just as well’ it is definitely not the best option for you or your skin… or your hair! Here’s why you shouldn’t just use whatever duct tape you have lying around the house for your kinky sessions.

Goodbye, skin...

Goodbye, skin... - Why You Should Avoid Using Real Duct Tape
Wearing duct tape on the skin, or intimate areas, for long periods of time is NOT GOOD. The longer it’s on, the harder it is to get off, and the more skin cells you will lose when you rip it off. The adhesive is also not suitable for direct contact with skin (especially not those sensitive mucus membranes) so it may lead to irritation of the skin, rashes, or break-outs.

Goodbye, hair...

Goodbye, hair... - Why You Should Avoid Using Real Duct Tape
Since the adhesive on duct tape is so strong, it will also most likely remove a lot of hair upon removal. For those small hairs on the arms and legs, the may just be ripped right out. For the longer hair on your head or your pubes, if the tape doesn’t actually rip it out, it may just tug painfully at it until the adhesive releases. Either way, pain is on the menu, boys…

Not easy to remove

Not easy to remove - Why You Should Avoid Using Real Duct Tape
Duct tape is not a safe option for bondage and BDSM play for many reasons. But the fact that it cannot be easily removed during play time is an absolute no-go. If the wearer suddenly needs to stop, it takes a while to remove all the duct tape, even when using safety shears. On the other hand, bondage tape is easily removed with those scissors since tape doesn’t actually stick to the skin!

How to use bondage tape

Before delving into the exciting world of bondage tape, you should know exactly how to use it! Not only for safety, but to ensure you’re getting the most out of the tape. Remember; never ever leave someone alone while restrained, and always have a pair of safety scissors available when using any bondage restraint.

Experiment with different styles

Experiment with different styles

One of the most exciting things about bondage tape is the versatility; you can make lots of sexy body wear with it, and there is no sticky adhesive in the way either! Try binding your hands or feet first to see if you/your partner likes it; you can always move up to more advanced bondage when you’re more familiar.

Communicate

Communicate

In any act of bdsm, communication is vital; be sure to let your partner know what you’re comfortable with, and listen to them- do all this beforehand, or there is a risk of wires being crossed during sex. Always have a safe word/action for when you reach your limit- decide this beforehand.

How to clean bondage tape

If your bondage tape is reusable, you should ensure it is clean before you use it again. If it is not reusable, be sure to dispose of it and use new, clean bondage tape. Some bondage tape is waterproof, while some is not, and so it is important to check the packaging and specifics of your tape. If your bondage tape is waterproof, you should take a clean cloth with warm water and antibacterial soap/toy cleaner, and wipe the tape down. Do not get the tape sopping wet as this may interfere with the quality of it! Be sure to thorougly dry your bondage tape with a clean towel- do not leave to air dry. If your tape is not waterproof, take a dry cloth and add a little bit of toy cleaner/ antibacterial soap mixed with water and gently wipe down the tape- do not get the tape sopping wet. Dry immediately with a clean towel- do not leave to air dry.
