For me, the Lelo Luna Beads are a surefire winner in the world of kegel balls. They’re great for beginners and more experienced users alike, thanks to the two sets of differently-weighted balls and the soft, silicone sheath. While the vagina does have a natural end to it, it’s nice to have the balls contained in a sleeve, rather than having to root around up there! The pull cord also makes it totally stress-free to remove them once you’re done. The pink balls are only 1oz each, which is a perfect starter weight. The blue balls are a little heavier, but will still be manageable to most. Vern, who tested out the Lelo Beads, said that “even though I couldn’t feel them as much, I was still getting super aroused, especially with the heavier blue balls“. These aren’t designed to be very noticeable as you wear them, but there’s a subtle stimulation there that can really get you turned on! Many people, including myself, can rarely orgasm from internal stimulation alone anyway, so think of this a fun way to warm up. One complaint that Vern did have is that they “look a little cheap and feel a little fragile“. I’m inclined to agree with them, especially considering how luxurious and well-designed other Lelo toys are. However, Vern also found the balls deceptively high-quality and sturdy. While they may look like they came out of a gachapon machine, they certainly don’t feel like it!

Plain kegel balls can be fun, but if you’re looking to create a regular pelvic floor workout, the kGoal Classic Kegel Trainer is my top pick. Flora tested it out, and was a big fan of the innovative ‘air pillow’ design that “felt strong, yet flexible“. You can deflate it down to 1.5 inches in diameter, and then inflate it to a snug fit once it’s inside. This, along with its 360º pressure sensor, allows the kGoal to give incredibly sensitive data readouts, which is important if you want to actually improve your performance. Using the kGoal app, you can explore six different games that help you develop your Kegel strength and control. Flora found the app “easy to understand and fun to use“, and her favorites were the Blocks and Shapes games. It also has a ‘custom workout’ option that allows a physical therapist or doctor to create a personalized plan for you — this is another thing that makes me feel like the kGoal is a real, useful tool and not just a gimmicky toy. One standout feature that I love about the kGoal Classic is how it uses vibrations as a biofeedback tool. It has an external arm for clitoral vibrations, and an internal motor as well. They allow you to actually feel how well you’re doing, though, as Flora found, it “tantalizing pleasure” too! So, did it actually work for our tester? Let’s see what Flora had to say: “I have gained more control over my Kegels… not to mention, my climaxes have become noticeably more intense!

3 Best Kegel Vibrator

We-Vibe Bloom Silicone Vibrating Kegel Balls

 We-Vibe Bloom

There was no way that the We-Vibe Bloom wasn’t making it onto this list! Falling somewhere between an egg vibrator and a full-on kegel exerciser, it offers more vibrational power than many other vibrating kegel balls, and even has the added bonus of app controls! Kiki, who tested out the Bloom, found the vibes to be enjoyably rumbly, and they felt extra intense “because you’re squeezing your pelvic floor when using it… giving a really nice sensation“. Plus, it was incredibly quiet to use. The design is a little different than what you might expect. There is one ‘base’ ball that weighs 1.2oz and houses the motor, plus three interchangeable balls that screw onto the base. Kiki found that “the lightest head felt… the same as a pair of dice” while the heaviest was like “a kiwi or a small lime“. After experimenting with all three, she enjoyed the heaviest the most, but the great thing about the Bloom is that it caters to all different weight preferences. You can also use the weights progressively as you use them more and more. And then, of course, there’s the We-Vibe app to connect it to! Rather than providing workout games like some of the other options in this review, this one is more of a regular sex toy app. It allows you to create custom vibration intensities and patterns, as well as letting a partner control your toy from anywhere in the world. You can even sync the vibes to music, or a partner’s voice! So, I think the Bloom is most suitable as a fun toy rather than a serious workout tool. That being said, it worked great for Kiki!: “I have genuinely stronger pelvic floor muscles now and feel like it’s easier to squeeze those muscles whether something is in there or not.

While I have also mentioned another app-controlled Kegel exerciser in this review, I thought the Elvie also needed a mention for its stellar app! Similar to the kGoal, the Elvie uses gamified workouts to help you work out your pelvic floor, and uses some vibrations as feedback. There are 6 games to train different skills: Strength, Lift, Pulse, Hold, Speed and Step. You can choose between maintaining pelvic floor fitness, building strength or challenging yourself, which dictates how often you should train. Isabelle tested it out and found that it was “incredibly easy to connect to the app and it took just a few minutes to get started with the training exercises“. I love an approachable app, especially since not everyone is super tech-savvy! One feature that caught my eye is the Elvie’s patented tilt technology, which is supposed to detect whether you’re pushing down your muscles instead of pulling up. However, Isabelle did find that “I could also squeezing other muscles aside from just my pelvic floor and it was registered as a successful exercise“, so their promises may not always live up to reality there. Even so, she mentioned that “I did see some improvements on my scores, and… I was getting more used to performing the pulse actions“, though the best part was a “more general awareness of my pelvic floor muscles“. That’s a win in my book!

5 Best Yoni Eggs

When I took the yoni eggs out of the box, I was instantly enchanted by the beauty of the swirling colors and just how smooth and lovely they felt to hold.” It’s not hard to fall in love with these crystal yoni eggs just by looking at them! For anyone who is interested in exploring the spiritual side of sex, I believe the Le Wand Yoni Eggs are a fantastic product to try. Made from solid rose quartz or black obsidian, these weighty eggs are high-quality tools that you use for meditation or simply enjoying the sensations they bring. They can be used with or without the accompanying silicone sleeve, but I recommend using it for easy removal. Our tester Isabelle found that “the egg itself doesn’t create a much sensation“, since it doesn’t vibrate or move around, but that “it did help my set my intention and really tune into the fine sensations in my body“. She really loved using them as a part of her meditation practice, which is the perfect way to enjoy these little eggs. However, if you want a toy for more of a Kegel workout, you might find it difficult, since you likely won’t be able to fully relax your muscles in between contractions. At 1.8oz, I wouldn’t say they are particularly beginner-friendly. You could use them one at a time, but then you will either have one empty pocket in the silicone sleeve, or you can forgo the sleeve and have to retrieve the egg with your fingers.

Isn’t there something just so appealing about shiny steel sex toys? I definitely can’t resist them, anyway! Weighing in at a collective 3oz, the Inner Goddess Mini Pleasure Balls from the Fifty Shades of Grey range aren’t the lightest option on this list, but should be manageable for intermediate kegel ball users. Cinnamon gave them a go and loved the “ultra-polished metal balls that glide smoothly with proper lubrication“. Make sure to use them with a generous amount of water-based lube to achieve the ultimate glide! Despite being made from 100% stainless steel, these balls are connected with a silicone cord that also functions as a pull cord. To make removal even easier, there’s a metal tab at the end that you can hook a finger into. While she didn’t notice a huge difference in her pelvic floor strength, she really enjoyed using them as a warm-up before playtime with her partner. Her favorite way to use them is to “wear them for a while, and as I sit down, I move ever so slightly to allow the balls to press on my g-spot discreetly“.

Things to Know Before Using Kegel Balls

Even if you’re ready to start using kegel balls for tightening your pelvic floor right away, there are a few things you’ll want to know before you begin. Firstly, kegel ball exercises aren’t recommended for everyone. You should avoid using them while pregnant or when recovering from pregnancy. When in doubt, you should check with your doctor to ensure that you can safely use kegel balls. Like any other sex toy, it’s important to only use toys made from body-safe materials. You’ll also need to select a weight & size that’s suitable for you. Always make sure to sufficiently clean your kegel balls between use. If not, you may end up with an infection. Lastly, avoid working too hard. Overusing kegel balls can lead to fatigue, discomfort, pain, and even vaginal tearing! Once again, when in doubt, check in with your doctor to avoid any issues.

How do Kegel Balls Work?

Kegel balls, also known as vaginal beads or Ben Wa balls, use weight to apply resistance against the pelvic floor. For this process, the balls are inserted inside the vagina and held in place by the pelvic floor muscles. By changing the weight, a person is able to increase or decrease the resistance, allowing them to strength-train their pelvic floor muscles. Training approaches vary. While some users only wear them for a few minutes at a time, others wear them for hours daily.

The Basics of Pelvic Floor Health

Your pelvic floor supports your bladder, urethra, and intestines. Playing such a critical role in everyday life, it’s important that you pay close attention to your pelvic floor health! Having bad pelvic floor health can cause a number of different issues, including sexual, flatulence, and urination issues. Fortunately, by using weighted vaginal beads, vibrating kegel balls, or by doing basic kegel exercises, you can improve your pelvic floor health with minimal effort.

Different Types of Ben Wa Balls

Ben Wa balls are known by many different names and there are some small differences between them, although the names are often used interchangeably. It’s not exactly clear where the name ‘Ben Wa’ came from, but several sources claim that the name was invented to sound Japanese while still being easy enough to pronounce and remember in Western society. Here are the main types of Ben Wa balls to help you choose the best one for you:
  • Jiggle balls — Jiggle balls have free rolling weights inside that rock and roll as you move, providing some subtle stimulation. These are great if you want to wear your balls as a little sexy secret during the day or a date night.
  • Kegel weights — These are more aimed at exercising the pelvic floor and often come in a set with multiple different weights for you to progress through.
  • Kegel exercisers — These app-enabled Kegel trainers connect to your phone to give you bio feedback as you squeeze and release your pelvic floor muscles. They also provide personalised training programmes according to your abilities and some are even gamified.
  • Vibrating Kegel balls — If you want some added pleasure with your pelvic floor workout, vibrating Kegel balls are the way to go! If they are app or remote controlled, they are also great for some discreet public play.

What to Look For in Ben Wa Balls

Next up I’ve got my top tips on how to choose the best Ben Wa balls for you!

Always look for safe materials

As Ben Wa balls are sitting inside you for a considerable amount of time, it’s super important to make sure they are made of body safe materials that are non-porous and non-toxic. Here are the best materials for Ben Wa Balls:
  • Silicone
  • Borosilicate glass
  • Stainless steel
  • ABS plastic

Choose the right weight

If you are just getting started with Ben Wa balls, it’s best to go for a lower weight — 20g – 40g. You can then progress onto heavier weights as you build more strength.

Find the right size

As well as looking for a suitable weight, you need to consider the size of the balls. Bigger balls are easier to grip onto, whereas smaller balls are more difficult, providing a more intense training, especially if they are heavy. You also want to make sure the ball is not so big that it feels uncomfortable or painful.

Do you want added stimulation?

If you want added stimulation, you should look for vibrating Ben Wa balls or ones with rolling weights inside that move as you walk.

Remote or app control

If your Ben Wa balls have vibrations, you should also think about whether you want a remote control or app-control option. This can make it easier to change the settings while in use and allow you to enjoy discreet public play!

Easy removal loop

If you want to be able to remove your Ben Wa balls easily or are worried about them getting stuck, go for ones with a loop handle for easy removal. This is also the best option for beginners. You should always make sure the removal cord is also made of non-toxic, non-porous materials, like silicone.

What to avoid

  • Never buy Ben Wa balls made of porous materials. They provide the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.
  • Avoid materials that contain harmful substances, such as phthalates.
  • Don’t be tempted to straight for a heavy weight, as you might find that it simply slips out and you are not able to use it.

Do Ben Wa Balls Make You Tighter?

One of the reported benefit of Kegel balls is that they can make your vaginal canal feel tighter. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence from vulva owners who report feeling tighter after training with weighted weighted vagina balls. While they don’t actually shrink your vagina in any way, strengthening the pelvic floor muscles can lead to a tighter feel. There is still some debate about whether Ben Wa balls or Kegel balls are the most effective way to train your pelvic floor. Here are some things to keep in mind if you Kegel ball exercises to train your pelvic floor.

Correctly identify your pelvic floor muscles

Many people are not used to activating their pelvic floor muscles so it’s super important to learn how to correctly identify your pelvic floor and how to engage it. These are the muscles you squeeze when trying to stop the flow of urine, although you should not practice by doing this, as it can create bad urinary habits. Instead of actually doing this while you pee, just imagine doing it. You should feel a tightening and lifting sensation in the muscles between your vagina and anus. You should avoid tensing the surrounding muscles of your thighs, butt cheeks, and stomach.

Tense and relax

Like any good exercise, Kegel exercises, whether freestyle or with weighted vagina balls, should involve tensing and relaxing the muscles. Only tensing the muscles can lead to muscle fatigue and damage.

You shouldn't leave them in for too long

Contrary to what you hear, it’s not a good idea to leave Ben Wa balls in all day as this can overwork your pelvic floor muscles. It’s best to start with shorter amounts of time on a regular basis.

You might not need to strengthen your pelvic floor

Not everyone should do Kegels! Some people already have a hypertoned pelvic floor and doing more exercise can exacerbate the problem. If you have any issues with sexual function or incontinence, it’s always best to see a doctor before trying pelvic floor exercises of any kind.

Can Ben Wa Balls Make You Orgasm?

This definitely differs from person to person, but simple Ben Wa balls are not necessarily designed to make you orgasm. Most are designed to help you exercise your pelvic floor or provide subtle stimulation as you move around, which can help build arousal. That being said, some people can and do experience orgasm when using Ben Wa balls. It could also be partly due to the tensing and relaxing of your pelvic floor muscles, the slow building arousal, the psychological element of wearing them, or likely a combination of all three. Vibrating Kegel balls can also increase the pleasure you feel from using them and increase your chances of having an orgasm. So yes, Ben Wa balls can be stimulating and even lead to an orgasm for some people, but, if you are looking for a sex toy that takes the express route to O town, I wouldn’t recommend Ben Wa balls. Instead, I would recommend a dildo, vibrator, or clit sucker as they provide the intense stimulation that most people need.

How to Use Kegel Balls

Using kegel toys can do wonders for your health, but the process can seem a bit intimidating if you’ve never used these vaginal balls. No need to fret though. Just keep reading to familiarize yourself with the process!

Apply Lube & Lie Down

Apply Lube & Lie Down

You’ll want to apply lube to the balls for easy insertion. It may also be a good idea to apply some lube to yourself as well. Once everything is properly lubricant, lie down, spread your legs apart, and grab the balls.

Insert the First Ball

Insert the First Ball

Going slowly, insert the first ball. Feel free to apply more lube if needed. Continue this process until the last ball has been inserted, taking care to not insert the removal loop as well.

Tighten and Enjoy

Tighten and Enjoy

Once you’ve inserted all of the balls and made sure the removal loop is outside of your body, you can tighten your pelvic floor muscles to hold the balls in place. From here, you can either go about your day as normal or perform specific kegel exercises: the choice is up to you!

How to Clean Kegel Balls

First, you’ll want to find out if your kegel balls are made from silicone. If yes, do they contain electrical components? If your kegel balls are made from silicone and free of electrical components then you can sterilize them by dropping them in a pot of boiling water for five minutes. If not, then you’ll be limited to cleaning only! To clean them, use antibacterial soap and warm water. Clean once with both water and soap, then wash them off using water only. Pat the balls dry with a clean towel, then leave them out to air dry completely before storing them away. Never attempt to store your kegel balls away if they’re still damp, as bacteria can grow in the leftover moisture!

FAQ

Most—but not all—people with vaginas can use kegel balls. Those starting or recovering from pregnancy shouldn’t use kegel balls; they should also be avoided by those with pelvic floor muscle issues.

Ben Wa balls sit inside the vagina and require the wearer to tense their pelvic floor muscles to hold them in place as they move around. They can also provide some internal stimulation as they move or any internal weights roll around.

Firstly, make sure your hands and Ben Wa balls are clean. You can then apply a small amount of lube to your ball(s) and slowly insert them just a couple of inches into your vagina.

Exact answers vary, but the general recommendation is to wear your kegel balls for no more than four to six hours.

If your Ben Wa ball has a loop or string, you can gently pull down to remove it. If you have a free-roaming Ben Wa ball, you can insert one finger and hook it out. You can also push down with your pelvic floor muscles to push it closer to your vaginal opening.

You should clean your kegel balls before using them initially, then again every time after you’re done using them. Failing to do this could lead to vaginal infections!

Water-based lubricants are safe to use with any type of sex material. Silicone lubricants may also be okay, but aren’t compatible with silicone kegel balls. Some hybrid lubes may be able to be used with silicone kegel balls, but you should always check to ensure compatibility before using any type of lubricant that’s not water-based.

No, kegel balls should not be used in the anus. In addition to providing no medical benefits, there’s also the possibility of the balls getting lost inside the anus. You should purchase dedicated anal toys for this purpose instead.

What are kegel balls?

Kegel balls are tiny, weighted balls designed for training and strengthening your pelvic floor. These balls are meant to be placed inside the vagina, where their weight puts resistance against the pelvic floor. They offer a variety of potential benefits including improved pelvic health, better bladder control, and enhanced sexual pleasure. Ben Wa balls are known by many different names — jiggle balls, Geisha balls, Kegel balls, love balls to name just a few! They are balls that are worn inside the vagina, either to improve pelvic floor tone or for sexual stimulation and pleasure. They vary in shape and size, with bigger, lighter balls being easier to hold and smaller, heavier ones more difficult. They are also a great option for some discreet public play, although the stimulation tends to be more subtle than you would get with a vibrator.
