Our tester Flora really enjoyed using the Hush 2 so much that she tested it both anally and vaginally. Flora mentioned that the vibrations are powerful and rumbly, but she mostly focused on how fun and interactive the Lovense app was. Plus, in my opinion the Lovense app is currently the best, most advanced, and most reliable app on the market. After testing many different sex toy apps, I can ensure you that you can’t go wrong the Lovense app. By using the Hush 2, Flora also described her experience with how it gave it the “most beautiful, prolonged orgasm I’ve ever experienced.”. The Hush 2 is the highest rated anal vibrator on Bedbible, and naturally deserved the test winner. It’s got powerful and rumbly vibrations, similar to most other vibrators from Lovense. I think the Lovense Hush 2 is a perfect toy for both beginners and advanced users. As for any anal toy, it’s perfect that that you get to choose the right size and play with vibrations and patterns or give the control to your partner for an exciting teasing, power-play, or intimate long-distance time. Finally, the shape, base, and silicone material make it a user-friendly sex toy. It’s super comfortable to wear, and even an amazing option if you want anal vibrator to wear in public!

Emiel, our Bedbible tester, wrote a surprisingly positive review of the Lovehoney Butt Tingler. Emiel mentioned that the insertion was easy and that it was comfortable to wear. Being the owner of a lot of anal toys he did say that “It isn’t my most exciting”, while he also said “it definitely gets the job done” and that if he was “just getting into anal, this would be a phenomenal toy.”. Or, for his experience level, he said it is a great option for when he needs something “smaller and easy to use”. Emiel mentioned that the toy provides nice, but gentle stimulation, but the vibrations are less powerful than they hoped. Overall the Lovehoney Butt Tingler also works great as a starter anal vibrator – it’s cheap, compact and comfortable. However, for those looking for something a little more intense, the size and vibrations of this toy may leave something to be desired. In my experience, anal vibrators that shaped like this (with very little difference in diameter between the largest point and the neck of the toy) have a tendency to pop out during use, though. Especially while moving around or tensing up your core muscles too intensely. So, if you’re looking for an affordable and beginner-friendly anal vibrator that has to stay put during use, I would recommend that you go for something that has a longer and slimmer neck, like the b-Vibe Novice.

3 Best for Beginners

Jess “absolutely LOVED the B-Vibe Novice”, and said she would “recommend this to anyone who wants to start a journey in anal play”. She found the vibrations to be powerful and wonderfully rumbly and thoroughly enjoyed testing this little plug out! I agree with her completely. Generally, b-Vibe has fantastic vibrator-technology, and focuses heavily on anal toys – and they mastered this beginner-friendly anal vibrator. Solely based on vibration power, this is a plug would be fulfilling for all experience levels and needs. Meanwhile, the very small size, size is absolutely perfect for beginners, and I’m always advising anal novices to start here. The small size also made it “perfect size for extended wear” or “during vaginal penetration”. To be honest, I don’t get why I haven’t seen other, similar-sized, anal vibrators anywhere else. It’s a genious idea. Jesse “have bigger plugs and will continue to explore them”, but she still found that the b-Vibe Novice was “going to be” something that she would “grab every time” she “want a staple plug with a great comfort level”. The only downside is really that it isn’t a cheap anal vibrator. I’d prefer some certainty around how long I plan to use it for, before committing to buying it. But, buying this, I would at least not have to worry about it being to large or uncomfortable.

Our Bedbible tester, Daphne was “was surprised by how much I ended up liking” the We-Vibe Ditto+. She enjoyed all remote-controlled options, the powerful but quiet vibrations, and the flexible body with a longer base that provided a very comfortable experience. Mores specifically she found the angle to be perfect and “the flexibility allowed me to move around, sit, stand, walk, lie down, turn over in bed, use a dildo vaginally simultaneously”, all while it still “stayed in”. As Daphne has quite a bit of experience, she said that typically “a lot of smaller butt plugs will fall out” doing the same, while this “stayed put the entire time.” The reason I included the Ditto+ is especially because of the flexible design with a longer base that provides a comfortable experience for an extended time. That is definitely not a given for anal vibrators. It’s the best anal vibrator for extended (and even public) wear, as it’s also small, and quiet.

5 Best for Prostate

The Vector+ is a significant upgrade of the old Vector, who Robby Stiles tested for us. He has “personally been through a lot of anal vibrators with multiple frustrations in my sexual life”, and finally found something that made him “climax from anal stimulation alone”. He’s previously experienced that a lot of vibrators fall short on “two very important categories for me: comfort and arousal”, while the Vector+ certainly didn’t. Robby called it a “slam dunk in comfort” and said it “perfectly caresses my P-Spot” by applying the “most incredible and breathtaking pressure on my prostate” Both him, and I was super impressed about how “insanely strong vibrating motor” it has, especially when you consider “how small and discreet its frame is”. Having tested a lot of We-Vibe toys personally I have experienced some app-connectivity issues. Albeit, it’s some time ago, and it seems those bugs have since been patched.

Kasia and her boyfriend tested the Lelo Loki Wave 2, and they really enjoyed using this toy, especially the WaveMotion technology, which turned out to be a huge hit! More specifically tyhat is the ‘come-hither’ motion it automatically generates that is “not just a gimmick—it actually feels incredible” and Kasia experienced it as “a unique sensation that my partner couldn’t get enough of.”. They enjoyed the bulbous shape of the toy, calling it a “nice filling shape”, and dual stimulation with “strong vibrations”, although they mentioned that the toy is quite loud and somewhat buzzy on the higher settings. I can confidently say that the Lelo Loki Wave 2 is a game-changer in the world of anal vibrators – especially if you want to target the prostate. Having personally tested multiple Lelo toys, it’s simply a wonderful brand that makes super high-quality toys. ONe thing I will add is that it’s not really a good anal vibrator for beginners. It’s big and bulbous, and the design doesn’t allow for an easy, hands-free experience.

Isabelle, our tester and sex expert quite enjoyed using the Lelo Soraya Beads. But mostly, I included it on the list, because it’s a very different, and interesting, type of anal vibrator. Isabelle was impressed that she “could actually feel each bead vibrating sequentially“. That is because of the so-called BowMotion™ technology. While it did “add something dynamic to the sensations” for Isabelle, it “didn’t simulate a thrusting motion” as it’s advertised to do. While I like the idea behind the Bow-Motion™ technology, I’m aslo not surprised that it doesn’t actually successfully create a sensation of thrusting. That being said, the gradual vibrations is novel and super interesting, while and, as an expert I’ve not seen anything similar in the world of anal vibrators. In terms of the vibrations, Isabelle did note that they were “a little loud”, and she would have liked the vibrations to be “a bit more rumbly”. The buzzy vibrations are simply because the motors have to be so small to fit 4 different ones inside the relatively small beads

Different Types of Anal Vibrators

So, we’ve already talked about a whole range of different shapes, sizes and types of anal vibrators in this article, but what exactly are they all for? Here’s a quick guide to the most common types of anal vibrator and what you can do with them:

Anal Plug Vibrators

Anal Plug Vibrators - Different Types of Anal Vibrators
Vibrating butt plugs are designed to stay inside the anal cavity and pleasure you without having to be held or moved about. They most often have tapered tips and get wider until reaching a slim neck and a flared base. The larger base works as a handle and stops the toy from getting lost up there.

Anal Bead Vibrators

Anal Bead Vibrators - Different Types of Anal Vibrators
Anal beads are “strings” of balls or beads that give a pleasurable feeling as they pass through the sphincter. They can either be connected together as one piece or separate beads connected by a string, and end with either a flared t-bar base or with a ring to hold on to. Try inserting them one-by-one and then pulling them out at the moment of orgasm.

Anal Probe Vibrators

Anal Probe Vibrators - Different Types of Anal Vibrators
Vibrating anal probes are often slimmer than most butt plugs  and more resemble a thick finger or a slim dildo than a plug. They can be moved in and out and maneuvered to hit all your sweet spots. They’re great for beginners who want to start off with something slim and comfortable.

Anal Bullet Vibrators

Anal Bullet Vibrators - Different Types of Anal Vibrators
Bullet vibrators by themselves should definitely NOT be used during anal play. This is because they’re small and lack a flared base, meaning they could easily get lost in the anal cavity – not good. Instead, there are a whole host of anal toys that feature a place especially for bullet vibrators for a very buzzy upgrade. However, there are a few rare anal bullets available out there – they just have to feature a flared base or stopper of some kind before they’re deemed anal safe.

Prostate Massagers

Prostate Massagers - Different Types of Anal Vibrators
There are lots of anal vibrators made specifically for penis-owners to reach all the way to the prostate gland, a walnut-sized spot about 2 inches up in the anal cavity that can produce some mind-blowing orgasms when stimulated. Prostate massagers often rotate or pulse as well as vibrating to massage the p-spot, and can have external arms that tease the perineum at the same time.

Remote Control Anal Vibrators

Remote Control Anal Vibrators - Different Types of Anal Vibrators
If you want a hands-free anal stimulation experience, look for a remote controlled anal vibrator that will allow you to position yourself however is most comfortable and control your pleasure easily. They’re also great for couple’s play – just hand over the control to your partner and enjoy what comes next.

What Size of Anal Vibrator Should You Choose

Choosing the right size of an anal vibrator is a big decision! Too small won’t give you enough stimulation; too big is unpleasant, even painful. So if you are unsure about measurements, don’t worry; we have you covered! Here is a short guide on how to choose the perfect size! Here is our blogpost that might be useful: What Size Butt Plug Should I Buy?

No experience

No experience - What Size of Anal Vibrator Should You Choose
If you are completely new to anal play, you should start with extra small sizes. They are extra slim and easier to insert. Try anal toys with a diameter of 1 inch or less. They might not bring a lot of stimulation, but they will help you slowly adjust to anal stimulation.

Beginner

Beginner - What Size of Anal Vibrator Should You Choose
If you have experience with anal toys but are not ready for big anal vibrators, a small size will be perfect. The size range is usually between 1-1.25 inches in diameter.

Intermediate

Intermediate - What Size of Anal Vibrator Should You Choose
Medium size anal toys will be perfect if you’ve had anal sex before. They are around 1.25-1.5 inches in diameter, which is the average size of a penis. This is a very common size for butt plugs and anal beads, so you will have many different shapes and features to choose from!

Experienced

Experienced - What Size of Anal Vibrator Should You Choose
Large anal toys are for those familiar with anal sex with a dildo or a penis. If you like the feeling of fullness and are up for intense stimulation, you can go for anal vibrators that are 1.75-2 inches in diameter.

Advanced

Advanced - What Size of Anal Vibrator Should You Choose
Extra-large anal vibrators are for those who love booty-filling sensations. If you feel ready for intense stretching and the deep feeling of fullness, try the toys above 2 inches in diameter to feel fully satisfied.

Best Materials for Anal Vibrators

There are many different types of materials used to make sex toys, and the same is true for anal vibrators specifically.
  • Silicone – This is the ultimate sex toy material! Soft, available in a variety of firmness levels, non-porous, body-safe, and sterilizable, silicone is used often in high-quality sex toys.
  • PVC – Many PVC products are advertised as phthalate-free. However, being as the sex toy industry is unregulated, there isn’t any way to guarantee this so we recommend avoiding PVC toys. PVC itself is a porous, pliable material.
  • Hard Plastic – Utilized in many different types of sex toys, hard plastic is generally body-safe. However, hard plastic isn’t flexible like silicone and can have sharp edges if not manufactured correctly.
  • Rubber – Rubber, like PVC, isn’t a recommended sex toy material. This porous, pliable material can harbor a lot of bacteria over time and can’t be sterilized like silicone, glass, or metal.

How to Use an Anal Vibrator: A Guide for Couple and Solo Play

The title, “How to use an anal vibrator” reaches right out there and smacks you in the face. The reason being is that any sort of anal play can be a sensitive and extremely private subject for many people. However, I feel this type of article is crucial for anyone curious about anal play and the use of an anal vibrator or anal toy of any kind. But why? To put it bluntly, you can’t just shove anything in your bottom without a bit of education and guidance. You could suffer serious injuries, spread infection and Heaven forbid, end up being the Emergency Room winner for “the best thing ever found in a bodily orifice.” Therefore, I want to convey the seriousness of the subject, all the while being a little cheeky. (See what I did there?) So, let’s get comfortable and discuss how to use an anal vibrator. I have tips for those of you whom are single as well as bottom curious couples.

Rules for Using an Anal Vibrator

There are no official rules for using an anal vibrator. So, no worries, the butt play referee won’t enter your bedroom with a whistle and an orange flag. However, there are unwritten rules for using an anal vibrator, or any anal sex toy, that should be followed to ensure the comfort and safety for everyone’s bottom and colon. So, before you pull the vibrating butt plug or anal vibrator out of your bedside toy box, read on to make sure you are following the rules for using an anal vibrator or sex toy.

Consent is Key When Using an Anal Vibrator

Consent is key when using an anal vibrator, sex toy or body part on another person. Seriously, I cannot possibly count how many times I have gotten the “accidental” dick slip and I’ve had to whisper, “Wrong hole, darling.” Accident or not, I was completely unprepared for that uninvited entrance and I had not consented to any sort of bottom play prior to that bedroom session. Therefore, it’s important to discuss the use of an anal vibrator, anal sex toy, penis or finger before actually doing it. For example, ask your partner, “Have you ever wondered what bottom sex feels like?” Or, you can express your own interest and see if your partner is game. No matter how you approach the subject, getting the green light before poking your partner in the bottom is key to exciting and consensual anal sex of any kind.

WARNING! Use Anal Sex Toys Only! No Carrots, Candles or Small Rodents Please

As we discuss how to use an anal vibrator, it’s equally as important to talk about things you should not put up your butt. For example, when you are curious about anal play, you can’t just gaze around your bedroom and seek out anything that may fit including candles, food items and small, pet rodents. Anal vibrators, anal sex toys, fingers and penises are the only acceptable items for bottom play. The reason for this is that the aforementioned items all have a safety feature that keeps those things from getting pulled into your rectum and colon far enough that you’ll need a doctor and a miner’s hat to retrieve. Yes, I said pulled in.

My Anus Does What?!

To further explain what I mean by things getting pulled further into the body, you must first understand how your backside works. You see, the anal sphincter is an extremely tight muscle that works to keep bodily waste inside your body until it’s time for it to be expelled. And, when that time comes, your colon and rectum contract, pushing things toward the sphincter and giving you the urge to grab a magazine or your phone to keep yourself occupied as you evacuate your bowels. Therefore, when you place something into the sphincter and rectum, your body reacts by contracting, which actually pulls things in. Plus, during arousal and genital touching, everything down there contracts in preparation of climax…. yet another bodily function that causes muscular spasm. This is why anal beads work so well; you don’t have to poke each and every bead into the anus. Rather, you place the first inside, hold onto the ring and continue foreplay. Before you know it, the beads have disappeared, having been pulled in by the anus. So, anything that doesn’t have a fail safe attached (like a flared design, wide base or human body) shouldn’t be put in your butt, because whatever you slide in there can get pulled all the way inside.

Never Numb Your Bum

Products exist that claim to numb your anus in preparation for anal sex. Well, that’s like numbing your skin and sticking your hand into a fire. Pain is our body’s way of telling us to stop. If you don’t feel those pain signals, you’ll be injured. The same rule applies to anal sex of any kind. If it hurts, you need to stop, relax and ease back into it. Therefore, just because you see a numbing agent on the market, doesn’t mean that it’s safe to use! Anal sex is possible for most people. But it takes time, patience and practice.

Make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable

Make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable

Anal play can have a bad rep and can be pretty anxiety-inducing for beginners, so make sure you’re ready and chilled out both mentally and physically beforehand.

Take your time

Take your time

The anal sphincter muscles are strong and won’t give way easily if they’re not used to the sensation. Don’t rush anything – go slow and check in with yourself or your partner often to make sure there’s minimal discomfort.

Use lots of lube

Use lots of lube

The anal cavity doesn’t have the same self-lubricating capabilities as the vagina or even the penis, so it needs a lot of help to avoid friction, pain or injury. If you’re using a silicone anal vibrator, make sure to use a water-based lube to stop the material from degrading.

Start small

Start small

If you’ve never had anything up there before, you won’t be able to use just anything to begin with. Start off as slim as possible, with a lubed up finger or a similar-sized toy, and work up from there if you feel like it.

Embrace the blended orgasm

Embrace the blended orgasm

In the beginning, it might feel more pleasurable to combine anal play with other kinds of stimulation. Try stroking the clitoris, perineum or nipples simultaneously, or combining it with oral sex or using your hands.

How to Clean an Anal Vibrator

Given the nature of where anal vibrators go, it’s fairly obvious how important it is to clean them after use. Cleaning your anal vibrator will help it last longer and keep pleasuring you for years to come. Different types of vibrator are made of different materials, and they require different care and cleaning methods. Check out our infographic below to see the best way to care for your anal vibrator.

FAQ

I don't recommend trying to create your own anal vibrator at home. The anal cavity is an extremely sensitive and delicate area, and things can easily get lost if they don't have the appropriate safety precautions in place. If something isn't medically recommended to go in your bum, don't chance it just to save a potential few dollars.

Yes, some g-spot vibrators can be used for anal stimulation, too! Just make sure that it has a flared base or some kind of ring to hold on to at the base to make sure you can keep a secure hold of it and it won't get lost up there.

Nope, never. Bullet vibrators are simply too small to safely be used for anal play, and they lack the flared base that stops you from losing grip on the toy and losing it inside you. Instead, try using an anal toy that has a slot in the base for a bullet vibrator to make a standard toy super buzzy and sexy.

There's no one-size-fits-all solution for how to have an anal orgasm with an anal vibrator, but take a look at our tips in the section above to get some inspiration for how to make things work a little easier.

That's totally up to you! There are very few rules when it comes to what kind of anal vibrator will give you the most pleasure. In general, beginners should stick to slimmer vibrators to optimize comfort and safety, and you should only use toys that are specifically safe for anal play. Check out our guide to different kinds of anal vibrator above.

Silicone is one of the most common materials used for anal toys, and it's the one we recommend the most. It's slower to degrade (when used with the correct water-based lube), body-safe, easier to clean and is less likely to pick up smells than other toys made of plastic or rubber.

What is an Anal Vibrator?

Anal vibrators are sex toys designed and created specifically for anal stimulation. Yes, there are anal sex toys made that don’t have the added stimulation of vibrations. However, we are going to focus in on bottom toys that have vibration. But keep in mind, you don’t have to turn the vibrations on unless you desire that extra stimulation. Basically, anal vibrators are smaller vibrators, in both length and girth, that are contoured to be used in the anus. All anal vibrators have specific designs that allow for comfortable penetration as well as safety features that allow the toy to stay in place. To explain further, I have listed the different types of anal vibrators below.
